Installing two - similar MT4 platforms on one PC

Hey guys,

Hope you all are well....

Ive had a bit of an issue with this & am hoping you'll be able to answer this for me. Lets say for e.g I use FXDD. Is it possible to install two or more FXDD MT4 platforms on the same PC and run different systems/EA's on them?

Ive heard of an MT4 duplicator but I don't think that would be the solution here as I don't want to duplicate Accounts...Hope that makes sense..

That is possible. I have done that with my FXDD demo and live platforms. Put them in different directories like FXDD1 and FXDD2.

Once you have the initial program "installed" you can do anything you want with it.

Copy it to another drive, find the "terminal.exe" file and run it from there; it will run on the same broker, so you can run multiple copies of MT4.

Can also be copy to a USB and run on a completely different computer without ever being "installed" on that computer; I do it every day at work

So your saying that you copy the terminal.exe file on a USB stick and run it on another computer without having to install MT4 at all...?

What I said was "Copy it to another drive" to me, this is not installing.

I should explain that I mean, "Copy the Folder & all files to another drive, desktop, USB" of course you still need ALL the MT4 files, not just the terminal.exe, common sense.

There is a link to another thread explaining all of this, but really, it is quite simple.

The "terminal.exe" file is within the MT4 folder, find it, double click to run MT4.

Alright! Gotcha!! ...You'll obviously need all the other files along in the MT4 folder...Duh! how silly could i have been lol..

Back on my laptop, where I have Snag-It for pictures, so here is a rough screen shot of what to do.

You can do multiple copies, re-name the folders, 1, 2, 3, whatever you like.

You can run as many as your computer can handle I guess, depends on number of charts & indicators running will slow it all down.

If using an external drive, you may wish to drag & drop back to the main computers, as you may have made changes to the indicators or charts, just drag & drop back. As usual, Windows will ask if you want to replace files, just click yes.

Also, this way you always have a recent backup of your working set of charts.


TIP: Press Windows key + 'E' to open Files Explorer quick & easy

Simple guys...just double click...condition is no mt4 should be open when you double click...
i open 2 mt4 in same directory with same shortcut keys.. works perfect..

anothe way is you can have multiple profile settings... the prob will be while changing profile, if its loaded with more settings it takes time to switch over to next profile..may be 1 min+

i just downloaded a new instance of Metatrader4 on my machine, i already have one instance of Metatrader4 that is working great.
But the New instance from same broker, same platform is not.
i named them differently, the second one is MBT Metatrader 4-2 Demo Account
so i was thinking this would work, i can get connected and everything is fine except when i try and load indicators or scripts that are .ex4 file, i have all of these same ones running on the other MT4 platform, so i must be doing something wrong.
i only have one platform running at at a time, but i also run both at same time with same problem...
Reading this thread for more advice; if you have MT4 under Programs folder, you need to move it direct to C: drive for a start, that may help

well i did move the new/second instance of MT4 directly on C/MBT.....
and the other is on C/Programfiles/MBT.....
But, they are for seperate type accounts, one is for Regular Demo Feed and the other is for Paid for Limits Demo, both are MT4.
i still cannot load the same .ex4 files on the new screen of the new downloaded MT4 Paid for Limits one.
i went through the settings for both and checked off the same in Tools/Options and all those settings in all tabs.
i have Universal login for All Demos with MBTrading that use the same Password.
Hopefully that is not the issue, also i am using Mihails Renko system which i like, but i might need to ask him if there may be a conflict as i have that system loaded on the one giving me problems, but not ever been on the other MT4 that is working with all those .ex4 files, one is Script .ex4 file and the others are Indicators .ex4 files.
Well, i will just keep trying to get this to work, and if i have to i will uninstall and start over.
any suggestions?

forgot to mention i also have another MT4 Demo with ATC Brokers, it has All the .ex4 files running i mentioned plus Mihailo's Renko System with No issues whatsoever.
it must be something with the new MT4 Paid for Limit Demo from MBT, either with the Paid for Limit MT4 or maybe the Locations?
there are no duplicates of the MT4 in either location.
one is in C/MBT.... and other in C/Programfiles/MBT....
i am confused.

i have tried any chart, offline ones for Renko and Time Charts.
i get the above Errors.
i do not get this problem with other Demos, either from same Broker or Different Broker MT4's.
Only thing now i can figure is the MBT Paid for Limit MT4 Demo, may be the issue.
help if anyone has suggestion.

Can anyone guide me how to run the same EA on multiple MT4 with same broker on the same computer?

Basically, I am able to run multiple MT4 on different drives but the same EA will not run more than once!

I need this so as to limit my risk by distributing the equity into multiple MT4 & use different pairs with the same EA.

I'm not sure if I understand the situation you are describing. Are you talking about the same account with the same broker? When you say more than once, do you mean concurrently or consecutively? That makes quite a difference.

Unless the EA has some bizarre logic, putting it on 2 different drives will not make any difference as you imply. An EA has no awareness of system things like the drive.

I want to run (have installed) the same EA on two MT4 platforms on different accounts with same broker, on diff drives of the same computer. I would like to run only one computer 24hrs a day.

While the individual a/cs on the two MT4 are running concurrently as they are on different drives of the same computer, the EA is taking trades only on the MT4 in primary drive (with program files etc) in spite of same settings on both drives.

The only difference I can see is that the 2nd drive does not have 'Program files', the MT4 folder is installed inside a sub-folder in this drive.

I have not understood when you say concurrently & consecutively are different.

I would like to run the same EA on multiple MT4s to limit risk & check performance on different pairs.

I'm still not sure that I understand all the details.

It sounds like one MT4 installation works fine and the other one doesn't. You definitely need two installations with two different accounts and as long as the setup is done right, it should be possible to do this on the same machine.

What is unclear is what works on the second installation - any indicators, another EA? Did you check for errors? My suspicion is that the second installation wasn't done properly, but I can't imagine why this would only affect one particular EA. Everything in the second installation should fail. Perhaps you need to remove it and install it again.

Basically all indicators & trades run well. Except for the same EA which is running well on another a/c with the same broker on another drive of the same computer.

Well, have read your reply carefully & have reloaded the MT4 & EA today.

Shall monitor & report my findings. If there is any addnl info you need, pls ask.

It would appear that the installation was done correctly if everything else is working.

Usually if an EA works on one platform and not on another, it is an installation or configuration problem. I can't explain why it works on one and not the other if your setup is the same for both. The fact its running on the same machine should make no difference. Right now, I am puzzled. If you notice something else, let me know, it might hold a clue as to what is going on.

anyone bothered to check if live trading is allowed?

Please check if you copied all necessary files for this EA, for example some EAs need DLL files which should be located in "expertslibraries" folder of the terminal. Note if EA uses Dll files then "Allow DLL imports" option should be enabled in EA settings.

Do you see any errors in "Journal" and "Experts" tabs of the terminal window?
