MT4 navigational tips and techniques

i see, well i did move the new/second instance of MT4 directly on C/MBT.....
and the other is on C/Programfiles/MBT.....
But, they are for seperate type accounts, one is for Regular Demo Feed and the other is for Paid for Limits, both are MT4.
i still cannot load the same .ex4 files on the new screen of the new downloaded MT4 Paid for Limits one.
i went through the settings for both and checked off the same in Tools/Options and all those settings in all tabs.
i have Universal login for All Demos with MBTrading that use the same Password.
Hopefully that is not the issue, also i am using Mihails Renko system which i like, but i might need to ask him if there may be a conflict as i have that system loaded on the one giving me problems, but not ever been on the other MT4.
Well, i will just keep trying to get this to work, and if i have to i will uninstall and start over.

Wow, just came across this thread to-day - what a great source for information

I am new to Forex ,I recently opening an account with GoMarkets (MT4)

I am having trouble regarding a basic requirement - in that I cannot print a chart in color!

The charts on my screen are color coded, but when I print them - they come out as black and white (the print preview also shows black and white)

Reading the help menu, it says this option can be enabled by setting the "color print" checkbox and pressing OK

My problem is, I cannot find this "color print" checkbox Does anyone know where it is located?

Is there another way to obtain colored printouts of my charts

Anyone have any issues with your MT4 when you draw a trendline or anything during the weekends and when the market opens on monday, those trendlines go out of sync?

thats because you don't have the quotes on your computer yet,
if you click pageup or page down it will force download,
you can also use offline charts like Erebus wrote,
but then you would only get the data from Metaquotes not from your broker,
if you do as I wrote you get the data from your broker,
you need to just keep pressing that button.

Hi I will be getting a second monitor and wondering if its possible to have Metatrader4 running with say trading charts on one monitor and watching charts up on the second monitor if so how would one do that please

either download a second (or more)version of MT4 (add a folded in your drive to save it to, i use live, demo 1 demo 2 etc) - then you can run 2/3/4 etc versions of mt4 and move them around your screens accordingly

or you can open mt4 and drag it across the screens by grabing the corner/edge, then adjust the charts to sit in the positions of choice

once you install the second monitor it will become easier to understand

Tools/options/charts - color print is 5 check boxes down

probably nothing unless your a genius coder - only ever seen one EA that couldn't be cracked, then it gets shared and you lose

that said if you can prove the EA works with solid live forward testing (at which point you won't need to make money of it) you could code it to read data from your server, then add code to the EA that requires a link code (authentication code of some sort) and limit people cracking it.

trouble is, the rule is generally - if a coder has to sell it to make money - then it's not working.

if however you can code really well - you could simple charge for coding as a past time while your EA makes money

i'd suggest you trade, get known for it, show that you have the skills then think about the money.

i don't think you'll find one, the reason the others work is because there is a timeframe/chart for the indi to gather info from. there is no yearly chart option to use - you may find a period hi/lo with a look back option that will allow you to look back xxweeks, but that will change from week to week etc.

but in this case i'd simply use a Fib tool and remove all the visuals except the 0, 50 and 100 - then you can manually set it were you like, it will hold the position as you flip tf and you only need to move it once a year - so no big issues.

Can the “charts” and “line studies” toolbars be duplicated? At the moment the toolbar function I want to grab with my mouse and drag onto a chart can be more than a metre of screens away. Duplicating these toolbars to the top of each monitor would speed up my annotation and navigation, and minimise the distraction caused by seeking the correct tool from these toolbars.

I've attached the Alert4u indicator to one of my charts in MT4. It works very nicely.

The problem is it changed all the names i had on my support and resistance horizontal lines.

Is there any way i can reverse this, so that those names reapear?

no they can't but they can be moved to any location on the screen if that helps

Hi....when i click 'Open Offline'(under the File option), I dont get a window opened that I can see. I know there is a hidden window open waiting for me to select something, as I can hit the tab key a couple of times and then the enter key...and a new offline chart appears.

Other than that I hit the ESC key, and I can then use mt4 as usual. I must have accidentally hidden the 'open offline' screen.

Can anyone assist, as I want to set up an EA to use RENKO charts.

This problem can arise if you are using multiple monitors and is related to resizing MT4 on multiple screen sizes.

SOLUTION: delete the following file from your MT4 folder (it will automatically add it back when MT4 restarts)

C: Program Files MT4 folder config terminal.ini

It basically resets the terminal initialization file and any external monitor information.
If you trade like me, you'll be homeless and broke within a week.

Thanks Erebus....yes I use multiple monitors on my laptop, one via the ext VGA connection and one from a usb video adaptor. I think the issue may have arisen when I tried to stretch the MT4 screen across multiple screens.
Have tried as you suggested ...but still have same issue..

Any other ideas..apart from reloading MT4...which i want as mt LAST option
