Indicators development for T101's not very simple method

I put the EA on EU and chose the option for HAS MTF and the matching template. It said trend is flat, which didn't look right. I switched to the VQzz and it opened a trade immediately (sell). Not a good time of day for trading, but here it is:

Here's an update. Found wrong parameter in iCustom function when using HASmtf. Now fixed. Use last templates posted with this EA. Note: EA attached to this post, or you can download full install for Mac or Windows via links below, from 4shared.

I wanted to provide full program and application installations for Windows and Mac, but needed to update them. Here they are again, updated:

So far so good with your update - everything trading normally

Yeah, I started my trades (just had got done with latest EA and put it on) about 9PM Eastern last night. Fixed TTF HASmtf iCustom function (my mistake - wrong variable put in, but since it was TTF and wrong numbers were still showing downtrend on TTF, it didn't affect the trades) while EA was in trades. Now up about 12% on both HASmtf and VQzz about 13 hours later Looking real good.

Mines been runing about the same amount of time with very similar results; I still went ahead and put that crazy 5/30 on also and it is up about 25%!! - however mainly due to the fact it chose bigger lot sizes. Also set up the multi pair account on 240/1440 and it's also up nicely

EXACTLY. This is why I prefer lower timeframes. Lower stoploss = bigger lots. But there are also more trades. All while risking same percent. Good thing for quickly compounding gains if they are winning trades. Bad thing for quickly compounding losses if they are losing trades.

Good to hear a "so far" success story (even if it is demo - it won't be for long). I hope for and expect many more before this is all said and done. And we couldn't have gotten here without Kos or zznbrm. Two fine choices we have for indicators, and using mtf on both

Guess what? You're proving what I've proven to myself long ago. Risking 2% per trade, it is possible to make 30, 40 or more percent on your account in a single day. You don't have to risk your butt to do it. Now imagine this same 2% risk, trading three pairs instead of one. Now imagine you doing this on multiple brokers. Now you're getting to what I've been aiming for four years now (since Nov. 7, 2007), and it's finally just now getting off the ground now that a solid strategy with a couple indicators to choose from, combined with my MM I made years ago, coded from learning to code better and better over these years. Like I said, I couldn't, and didn't, do it alone. I've lost my mind multiple times, received real encouragement from a few, a handful of donations in the past year, but hopefully some life-long friends in the process too

Hello Don,

First of all thanks for all your work here! I just created two demo accounts for testing your latest EA.

I noticed both opened a sell position but the lot size is ten times bigger in the EA using VQzz than in the EA using HAS.

Is this normal or one of them isn't calculating correctly the position size?

Here's my update. The EA shorted the EU last night as I mentioned. The trade made 154 pips by midday today! However, the EA opened the trade for .02 lots, so it was for $30.82 (demo). It was up over $40 at one point, but got out as it retraced up. Right after it closed, a buy opened, but for .10 lot. Why was the lot calculation so different? Also, it looked like both 15 and 60 VQzz were not matching (the 15 was green, but the 60 was still red). What was the logic that triggered the trade?

With this trade running, I shut off the EA and replaced it with the one that had iCustom fixed. Right now, it's down about 5 pips, but the VQ's are now both up, so it might be a good trade as well.

So far, it looks like a very promising EA. I'm just trying to understand the logic better, specifically, entries, exits and lot sizing.

I haven't tested the HASmtf option yet, since I don't think two trades is enough of a test of the VQzz. I can't do both since two of these freeze up my resources and I can't do my other work.

Would love to hear back from you on this.

Continuing to test Don's EAs:

Needed to make an adjustment for Lot Size logic...but other than that it is running fine. Although the exit strategy might need some work.

While testing, I changed the VQzz indicator to be a little more useful to me. I updated it to optionally produce a true representation of the upper level values on the lower level chart - previous values will never repaint in this version. This allows easy visual backtesting of the EA strategy when not in EachTickMode. Of course, if you run in EachTickMode, you would need tick data to accurately backtest. IMO, the EachTickMode would have many more whipsaws and does not interest me.

Updating the EA to use the new version is completely unnecessary as the underlying VQ values for the EA would be the same for either indicator.

I'm a little confused about last night's results (I'm in GMT+2). When I saw the lines on the chart, it looked like the EA took a sell that was slightly profitable or BE with spread and a nice buy. But look at trade history. The last two trades lost money. The last two trades in the history were a buy followed by a sell, not the sell followed by a buy that the chart lines indicate. Are these dashed lines on the chart not trades?

As far as exits, I know there was about $50 profit on the buy when I went to sleep, but it closed at a loss. There should be something changed in the exit logic, at least a BE stop.

I just checked the properties and saw the "everytick mode" was true, so I just shut that off. Let's see if that makes the difference.

I still think this is really close to an easy to use, profitable EA. Thanks again for all your work, Don. I think you're close to the finish line on this one.

Just woke up. Getting a slow start.

As for EachTickMode, I have it set to true. Why? Well, because I also have the EA set to make one trade per bar. And I feel we're using indicators that don't change many times per bar (Hasmtf doesn't for sure - it's blocks). If using MAs, then I could see maybe not setting EachTickMode to true.

My pic shows trades I've been in. No multiple trades per bar. I see that it looks like one person used scalp, and is getting many trades. To be honest, I think I should remove scalp, and use that code again as BE code.

As far as why lot sizing is different, it depends on how far price is from Semafor 3 (Support or resistance) when trade is taken. per my equation, per trade: Account balance changes. Percent risk is a constant. Stoploss changes. Tickvalue changes with each pair or broker. Equation is meant to always risk same percent while these variables change for each trade.

For instance, the first trade I took yesterday, someone else took around the same time, mentioning that it wasn't a good time to trade. Well, maybe it wasn't, but the trade went for many hours more. I had low lots on that trade. Why? If you look at EURUSD M15 chart with VQzz set to 60, you see the trend was already 2/3 done, so when sell was put on, it traded a LOT less lots than it would if it caught trend at beginning. This is the way it should be though. If I would have caught that trend at beginning last week, then would have been trading larger lots, made more money per pip, and caught much more of trend, so many more pips than we did

As far as rules, it's simple:
We have Trend TF (TTF) and Signal TF (STF). In iCustom line, the second variable is for timeframe we're viewing on, so I put STF there. Each indicator has "Timeframe" as external input. This input is for TTF. So in iCustom, I replace where I would put Timeframe with TTF (in iCustom lines for TTF). In iCustom lines for STF, I use STF.

So we have trend (if using VQzz, if active green will be 1 and red 0; if red, green will be 0 and red 1. If using HASmtf, we open and close, and just as with regular candles, if close is above open, bar is up; if open is above close, bar is down.

Rules are: If trend for both TTF and STF agree (e.g. for buy, both TTF and STF are green or blue), we exit one trade (e.g. sell) and enter the opposite direction (e.g. buy). Same for sells. When both agree, we exit buy and enter sell. At this time if using scalping, when TTF and STF do not agree, you exit. If future, without scalping option, when TTF and STF do not agree, you set to BE+1. Simple, yet very effective. The small losses I have had would not have been losses if I had BE code in there.

Of course we can talk about take profit, but honestly, TTF and STF will both be agreeing if we look that direction, which will cause extra variables (in this case conditions) be created. Not to say that it can't be done. It can. But if simple works, why be greedy and go the complicated route? Just my two cents.

It's built to be safe. If there are problems, we can work them out

BTW, both my tests, started at same time, although more trade have been taken on VQzz, the gains are practically neck and neck. If they were race horses, at this point, we'd have a good race going

So the lot sizing equation is a little more complex than just a percent of equity. Now I understand.

As far as not being a good time for trading, I was the one who said that. That didn't mean you can't make money, it's just a low or lowest volatility time of the day.

I'm all for simple, which is one reason I like this EA. But we do need something to prevent a winner from becoming a loser. Could the BE+x level be a user input?

In reading your explanation of entries and exits (not in scalping mode), are you saying that in the next version, there will be a BE+1 stop built-in? If not scalping, will it be always in?

Again, thanks again, not just for your work because work can produce garbage, but for your excellent work that is producing results.
