What about the question I quoted? Every currency can obviously be too expensive for its own good. Any guess on where that is these days for the US? Does US debt essentially cost a lot more to service if the dollar is that much more valuable. Say countries all over the world were buy treasuries when the dollar was cheap as...pig's trotters. Now as it appreciates, what the hell happens there? OR...is that end of it significant, because its all a giant ponzi...its the reserve currency...Ben has presses...hidden or visible?

There really aren't THAT many exports left these days, well..there are, but not like yesteryear...so what, and when, will it hurt most for the US?

Its a mixed bag. Many so-called "US companies" have been globalized going on decades, have and retain the bulk of their earnings abroad, so the usd value less critical.

But US still has lots to export. Ag is what I know - ag sectors in the three west coast states are 3%-OR 5%-WA and 18%-CA. Of course not all of that is exported but big chunks are and I know dusty old dudes who watch the usd/yen as close as any trader. Strong dollar can cut into business, which is cut-throat between the US, Chile, Mexico, etc.

they say that. who buys more oil then the u.s. government? everything has oil in it. that drop alone puts less spending in the scope. as oil goes down the trade deficit lessens. if it be up to me.. i would trade grain for oil. 1 bushel for 1 barrel. in a bad economy we save more and spend less. spending less hurts the exporters. most of the crap exported to the u.s. is less essential then food.. a greater portion is produced at home. high usd makes our food cost more to importers such as mid east.. at the same time their oil cost less. so more unrest should be in the future. unless the cad/aud make up the slack. interesting times indeed. regardless japan and Europe have high social cost with an aging population. this will not turn out well.
