the s paid well too.. predictive said 1919.xx it was off some. but it said it 2 years back.

Whatever a CB does, it distorts a market and makes it's correction all that much more traumatic when they no longer can or will continue their action.

Now the "Bernanke put" is gone, in the stock market's mindset, and it could likely get pretty bad. But a put has been granted to the long bond market, which means that now it continues to rise without let up. The US is headed for, or arrived at, negative real rates.

Meanwhile, collateral damage will be everywhere: Asia, Europe.

Time to read the news. I'll bet there's sticky white stuff all over the Z H site this morning ("See? We've been right all along!"). Except for the comment writers, who are largely the "gold only goes up" crowd.

Agree with your view.

On the second part, They underestimated the power the US still has as safe haven when things get really nasty and misread the FED and especially the BOJ and SNB blocking all buffers for risk diversification.

Here's my "gee, I didn't think about that" moment, from Bruce Krasting:

"There are at least a dozen EU banks who have had their stocks collapse. Their market cap value is less than 1% of assets. The “Short Ban” in Europe is forcing global investors to take defensive positions in bank stocks where trading is not restricted."

Once again, CB's distort and collateral damage ensures.

That, and the fact that BAC is trading close to 6 bucks. A stock that touches 5 is dead if it's institutionally held, because many of them can't hold after that. So, there's two songs in my head just now.

First, from "Kansas Rain" (John Stewart)
