I agree with that

the media doesnt help much either because the vast sentiment of citizens globally is increasingly drab and terrible.... no thanks to constant bombardment of negative news by the media.... it sort of sucks the will out of most people

Last i heard Merkels case wasnt lookin too good... dissenters in her own party even...

I wonder what tricks she will pull out of her cleavage to get reelected...

Is simple economics and is exactly the same as Greece. They have to get real and cut the crap and stop producing what they are not good at and shift production to something more competitive.

The worse thing that happened in the US during the recession was bailing out the inefficient dead car industry instead of cleaning the problem from the root (same problem for the housing bubble in the UK). Pure populism and miss-perception that defending inefficiency is the way to growth and blaming China or, in the case of the car industry, everybody else for the failure....

Sarkozy is riding high on the back of Libya, Germany really fucked that one up. Merkel will continue to use the Euro as political capital by refusing any further deals and bailouts to look good at home for now.

You and I are pure capitalists, we look at the world differently then politicians do. Protectionism never works. They should have just let the whole lot bankrupt itself, who really cares other then a few unions and overpaid workers. That was a great chance to clean it up, nobody had the balls to do it though.

Housing bubbles is the same issue, the US should just have allowed Freddy/Fanny to go bankrupt, who really cares about houses for NINJA's. They propped up the wrong end of the economy.

Ya I noticed sarkozy was playing the whole libya thing out and people are eating it up

It would have been better in the long term. They should have focused on high tech industry that they can be competitive in, not the low tech side of the economy.

that was attempted back in the late 20's with hoovers Lassiaz-faire policies

hell the fed even tightened monetary policy from 1928-33... they sure let the market "correct itself".. over 10,000 banks failed... unemployment soared to 25%... honestly who knows how bad it would of gotten if FDR hadnt come in...

not to say the market wouldnt of corrected itself eventually.... but man.... talk about real pain...

Quick death with potential rebound or slowly painful one cracking all confidence and treating.the next generation in the process...choose your poison...I know mine and especially in the US (is not a banana Republic) that is not short at all in competitive sectors...
