You can teach them the principle but then they need to figure out themselves within... that cant be bought or learnt by other traders...

but then again.... they are probably monitoring robots anyway

Not always. Say somebody came to you and offered you a VaR limit of 50 million, a 20% bonus-basis payout of your profits, and a young quant/programmer who wants to be you so will do everything you ask of him.

Turn it down to do your own thing?

goldman's interns come from variety of backgrounds. engineers, etc..

they actually like to get a fresh mind and train it.

the bottom percentage always gets cut. the cycle keeps going.

certain banks target specific groups though

I have actually thought about it before Quant and I think I would have turned it down because of the extra stress.... However, I can absolutely see how it is tempting to get rid of the personal risk.

If you asked me in 2003 I would have said yes straight away...

I would be happy to have a look on how they are trading though, physically for a couple of weeks that is

yea, I would have started some contests and taken it from there if I were to hire someone...

just amazes me that the 3rd largest hedge fund can loose almost 40% in a year... Can stop calling it a hedge fund at least...
