i thought underlying liqiudity should determine my spread..

DislikedDealing desk brokers trade against their clients, most advertise they are non-dealing desk implying you trade directly to their liquidity suppliers..... understand all brokers are market makers, or you are trading their unique market/price feed. Unless you're trading 1M or larger all group their orders, i.e. take the other side - in house, and offset those with their up-line liquidity provider, in doing so they employ shading, spreads and such to afford them the ability to do so, profitably.
