Hi Kcfish,

I know many around here trade - or did trade - with CMS.
Opinions about how good or how bad CMS is, are mixed a bit.

I had been trading with CMS for more than 6 months without major problems, when suddenly they were off-line during some major news releases. This event caused many contributors here to look for another broker. I had a little dispute about this with CMS as well, but in the end, this has been settled by CMS in a satisfactory way.
I still trade with them, for almost one year now. I recommend them.

I am with them right now, but i am planning on changing brokers.

frequent disconnections, hard time getting order filled during peak times... yadda yadda

I used to trade with CMS for a few months. What happened to me might be an isolated case but I had a lot of problem logging in. There were a few occasions when the connection just went offline while I was having an open position. After that, I had difficulties logging in, even with a different computer. It was nerve wrecking. Their technical support were of no help at all. Again, I repeat, this probably happened only to me.

Anyway, I couldn't carry on like this so I switched broker. All the problems that I had previously did not happened again. I am very happy with my present broker for the past 1 1/2 years. So far, I have 100% login success rate and good technical support.

The only thing I have to do now is to make some money. That's the way it should be.

EDIT: before cms i traded 2 months with forex.com, and they are just robbers, they manipulate quotes against your positions, avoid at all costs!

Their solution? Exit out of the system and log back in. I'm in the middle of a trade at the time, mind you. What a solution!

I may switch brokers as well, but don't know of any other FX brokers who have a solidly stellar reputation. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have been trading 2 platforms, FXCM and MB trading. This morning FXCM's server crashed and the platforms froze(at least the ones in this area). The prices did not update and it was impossible to either initiate a trade or close one. When I tried to reach them by telephone I spent quite a while on hold because many people were having the same problem. This was about a half hour after the news this morning. I had managed to get 1 trade going before the crash but when it got closed, it closed at the frozen price which was only about 30 pips up from where I entered the trade, while the price had gone up over 60 pips during the that time. I eventually got them to recognize what had occurred. I spent too much time straightenng out what had occurred and if it had not been for my second platform, would have been virtually tradeless.

I believe that if you are looking for another broker you might try them. They do not have set pip spreads but give you whatever is the best the banks they deal with offer them, sometimes 1 pip or less spreads, but they do charge a commission. Even with the commission I was doing better than with FXCM. They do not seem to have execution problems at peak times and I was far more likely to get the price I expected to get from them. Since they do not benefit from whatever price I buy or sell at they are likely to be more neutral. I think they are worth at least a look if you are trying to avoid the type of problem you have been having. They are particularly valuable after news releases. The first time I traded non-farm news release with them I called and asked if I was likely to have problems with getting my orders accepted and processed and they assured me that I would not (FXCM had a notice on the platforms telling you to expect difficulties), and MB trading have been as good as their word. I have had no problems of this type. Be aware that they do update their system every day at midnight GMT and the entire system shuts down for a few minutes and I sometimes have to reboot afterward, but that is probably the most significant problem I have had with them.

Thanks so much for the info on your experience with FXCM and MB. I've heard some horror stories about FXCM so it sounds like you've got the same story to tell. I'll check out MB in the meantime to see what they have to offer.

I'll also post back here if I find any other brokers worth checking out.

I am with MG Financial, I have been for about three years. I have never had any problems in my live acounts, but have had minor offlines in my demo. Their spreads are not all that great, though. I do not see this as a problem, because I trade daily and 4hour so the few extra pips spread does not matter much.

I also have an account at FXSolutions and they have always been very good, but their free charts suck big time. But I use my own charts and a DDE feed from MG, so I do not care about their charting package.

They do have an interesting hedging feature that I have not seen at many other places, though. you can open a long and a short on the same pair and only be charged one spread, not two. Then when you are ready to you can close one side of the hedge and the other side stays active. That is pretty cool.

I'm a newbie to the Forex world and have been studying on demo's from other IB's and trading live with CMS for a few months now. The VT Trader platform that is offered is the most intuitive and trouble free platform that I've used. Drag and Drop charting with the mouse, simple 2 step order execution on the charts has me sold. No connection problems. Trading system design from what I'm told is adequate but lacking still when it comes to complex systems. MetaTrader 4 is the latest platform craze that you will hear the most about which is not offered at CMS, but I still find MT4 difficult and slow to use and learn.(Demo version) Interbankfx. But it's an off shoot of MetaStock which does make it a system designers dream for making forex systems. Anyway, CMS I believe is improving slowly with respect to the other members concerns, but I think you will discover there are no perfect IB's, so find a platform that executes to the way you feel comfortable and you will be fine.

I am happy to see you're having some fun with VT but I just thought I'd let you know that VT is actually more of an offshoot of metastok.

If you can code in metastok. You can code in VT. actually, the language is so similar that you can practically copy and paste metastok formulas into VT with very, minimal changes.

MT4 is a whole different language.

So if you come across something you like in metastok. There's a good chance it can be done in VT.

NEVER trade with CMS list of problem with my live account:



1. Major login problem

2. Delayed Execution

3. Slippage.

4. Gets offline often (slightly reduced with DSL)

5. Chart reaction time is slightly delayed.



All the above can burn ur account in minutes



I burnt my fingers with them , never will go back there.

I am a newbie and have a unique, or at least odd situation. I work full time and in order to trade I am going to have to monitor my trades from work. I have Internet access from work, but my problem is the web filters at work. The web filters look for certain words or phases to block. One of the many things they block is any reference to trading or day trading. Therefore, I cannot even pull up any of the broker sites.

Anyone have any solutions?

If they have the words Trader and Day Trader in their filters, they must not want employees using their computers to day trade. I am an employer and I feel quite strongly that on my time I should get work out of my employees for what they are getting paid.

As an employer, I would not mind if an employee used his or her own notebook computer to check trades on their breaks and lunches etc.

But I have to tell you with all due respect if the job is paying you, you should work by their rules...

This is my first post. I have been with them for quite awhile now. I am very pleased with their charting package, but only use them for long term trades. They seem to lack the server capacity to handle extreme velocity during vital economic data release times.
I use other forex sites for interday trading.
