Is it possible to change individual candle colours (to use as some sort of indicator) as opposed changing indicator colours??

could you expand your question?

Do you mean change all the up bars one colour, different to all the down bars. Or do you mean different bars that the user chooses with different criteria?

different bars that the user chooses with different criteria

eg if bar has say 2 lower highs on either side or it is the ma crossover or whatever factor you choose then just change the colour of just that single bar

my understanding is that you cannot change the bars colour this way without using some sort of indicator to fudge it. Add colour over top type thing.

You can change colours of bars based on any criteria. I use one indicator in which i can have up to 10 different bar colours. There are 8 buffers and the two colours from the chart properties.

have a look for an indicator called rsi candles. It will show I believe 4 colours based on rsi. If you need more or want different criteria then just mod the indicator. It is what i did.

Thanks Flyer, but I think that paints over the top, which is a good workaround.

What I really wanted/wondered.... is there some good programmer out there that can actually access the underlying MT4 chart properties and change the actual base colours based on a particular criteria?

I assume that you need some include file and access windows functions but I have no idea, or ability, on how to do this.

what the hell is the point? no you can't programmatically change the colour scheme. of course there is nothing stopping people from programmatically opening the settings file tha contains the chart colour scheme and actually changing the file so that the next time the chart template loads it has different colours.

but why? why do something so awkward and silly? it is infinitely easier to simply overlay a histogram over the main chart candles and be done with it. if you want different colour schemes for different charts then you should just have a template for each symbol with the colour scheme you want!

if you want to dynamically change the colours depending on some condition being met then just have an indicator that overlays onto the chart candles... that's pretty much the ENTIRE POINT of why histograms work the way they do on the main chart as opposed to the way they work in sub windows.

summary : no you can't programmatically change mt4 colour schemes. yes you can overlay whatever you want with indicators and achieve exactly the same effect as you desire in a fairly straightforward and easy way and a hundred different indicators already do this... however, you want to make it harder for some reason and don't like this answer.

Do I ever make sense??? Good point, possibly never.

To me it just seemed a fudge to overlay stuff on a candle that was already there when, as I thought, I should have been easy to change the original candle... don't suppose that makes sense either!

Anyway thanks for the clarification, I am sure it was well intended.

no you aren't unprof and unintel... you are just refusing keys to the bentley because you are looking for the porche.

as far as fudges are concerned.... have you used mt4? the whole thing is a fudge, including it's scripting language. the only way it could get more fudgey is if it came straight from the oven.

can you plz code the below.


I have an idea for making mt4 indicator on basis of supply & demand zone, please see if you can successfully crack it and work it. Its below.

Condition 1 - If Difference between High & Low divided by 2 is greater than the difference between open and close of a candle or in other words {(High-Low)/2}>(open-close), then colour of candle should change to blue. This candle could be called base candle (At least this condition will also do)

Condition 2 - If there are 1 to 3 base candles continuously followed by at least 1 or 2 regular bull or bear candle then zone should be marked with close of the last base candle (1st candle from left to right) to low of the 1st base candle (1st candle from left to right). Zone should extend to the right side of the chart.

Condition 3 - After formation of such zone If Price touches this zone for the very and only 1st time then a buy or sell signal should be generated.

Please note this zone formed should be stable until the zone is breached with price close above or below zone.

If after a base candle there are bear candles then this zone should be called as supply Zone & if after base candles there is bull candle then this zone should be called as demand zone with their respective color.
