Ughhh... Their MT4 applies swap as a separate line item. You're EA will never know how much you're losing on swap and will close trades thinking they're profitable. Its unusable for any EA the will hold trades for a couple days. (unless your ROI erases any swap losses) - I've also noted some nasty "Balance Updates..." (I learned how dangerous these non-readable costs can be with FXCM. Your EA will be operating with faulty balance info)

If there is anything i have learned after years of using many many brokers, its don't put real money into things that are "New" features or " Beta Testing" There are so many bugs that need to be worked out! Seeing as how Oanda has issues with NFP or any other heavy trading time, I would expect nothing less when using MT4, i can already see myself not being able to execute crap during news and just keep getting those lovely MT4 re-quotes at where ever they decide to fill you if you can even get filled. Can't imagine trying to get out of a winning trade to watch it go negative while your sitting there waiting for it to fill.


Don't get me wrong, I love MT4 as much as the next person for charting, and enjoy Oanda for the actual trading. But this is just my opinion about hopping on the beta-bug train. lol

thats the way it was with fxtrade, too.

you could recheck the balance every tick and / through the number of trades to get an idea of swap. there are ways to work around this

Swap is reported for all pairs at the same time. How would you know which amount goes with which trade?

i would wait a few months and dont use real money for that. you will see how many bugs and other things will probably be just in the first months.

Today again. No connection since 7.45 PM.

Yesterday connection was restored after more than 1h with a data hole for that time..

I've opened a real account with Oanda.
I develop software on MT4 platform and I'm interested to test some expert advisor on their MT4.
All registration process, website, is very simple and functional.
I started running on EURGBP a well known ea : Ea Boss a night scalper.
On EURGBP Oanda has low spreads so I decided to test scalping.
The first two day of test went ok.
The strange thing is that Oanda overwrite Metatrader comments with the ticket number of their fxtrade platform, but this is not a problem.


The problem happened yesterday.
The ea did without problems the two first trades, then the two successive trades were "deleted" while were opened.
At the begin in the history of Metatrader the deleted traded were not present, after they appeared closed in loss in a future time.
The Oanda time was about 19:30 and the closed trade were near 23:30

The time sequence was :

open sell #1
takeprofit sell #1

open buy #1
open buy #2 but closed immediately from Oanda server
takeprofit buy #1

open sell #2
sell # 2 deleted immediately

Seems obvious that the issue came from a bridge misalignement with MT4.
I've submitted the issue to the Oanda customer service, with these images and detail of trades.
This is the reply :

I went deeply on inquiry with Oanda customer service.
Seems at this point, to me, that the issue was that the second buy, the buy of 0.04 lots was resulting still open in fxtrade platform, but was not more present in MT4 visualization.
So when the ea opened the last sell of 0.04 lots the server closed the old buy opened with the sell, matching the two order in exact size.
The last balance of 2.96€ was the gain of the buy #2 trade.


So the issue seems .... only the "vanished" order buy #2 from MT4

What a crock of an answer you received from them. So, they implement a 3rd party piece of software, but wash their hands of it's operation, and presumably your profits/losses ...

I test drove their MT4, in an environment where I am passing trade signals from TradeStation to MT4. I depended on the comment field for certain information. I contacted them, and they confirmed they will wipe out the comment field for the bridge/API linkage back to fxTrade, with no way around that.

Along with some other performance issues (ie., SLs and TPs not getting triggered!), there is little that is EA friendly about them. I might recommend MB Trading - it's a little more solid, although, up time seems to be an issue, the bridge is a little more solid that Oands's IMO.

I opened a demo MT4 account with Oanda 7 days ago. Issues such as comments being overwritten, balance update and interest entries are still there.

My biggest concern is that I experienced at least three periods of no data signals for more than 15 minutes and afterwards these leave gaps in the price chart with missing candles. I contacted Oanda live chat each time. First two times they acknowledged the problem and did something about it, like restarting a server or whatever. Today I was told "The fxTradePractice platform is working fine. If ticks are not updating on the MetaTrader platform you can use the fxTrade Practice platform instead". I told the person I am using EA's and scripts and that is why I need MT4. He could not offer any fix or advice other than that above.

Can anyone confirm whether the data tick breaks/failures occur on the live Oanda MT4 server as well? My idea is to test with demo first to ensure that live should be OK. Now I am worried and don't want to risk money going live unless I am told that data stability on the live servers are fine.

It looks like Oanda did not properly integrate MT4 into their trading servers. It's like they took a cookie cutter approach to bridging the two together. It's a shame, as they had years to properly integrate mt4.

I wonder what are the issues with Oanda and MT4...
Is mt4 reliable? Or should I stay with fxtrade?
