When I try to use this indicator, it shows no news files. why?

I am sorry, but I can not attempt to troubleshoot without more information.

Please explain, step by step, everything that you did after downloading the files; and list the parameter settings that you used.

Also:
--- what version of Windows are you running (XP/Vista/Win7)?
--- what MT4 br0ker are you using?
--- what build of MT4 are you running (see MT4 menu option: Help -> About)?

Hi David,

Jus a quick heads up, seems to be a prob in Recent News, but i have to eliminate my system, as my computer had failed over week-end and i am now restoring.

My Recent News event list is blank for this week after running the download process. I jus popped in here it see if anyone else had a prob.

Will update as soon as I have my charts back up and analysis done so i can be ready for London.

Strange. I have no such problem (see attached screenshot).

Mine works fine as well, just started to use this week. Awesome stuff.

Do you have to manually run the FFcal at the start of each week, or auto?

Chngster,

You need to run FFcal manually, whenever you want to update your chart with the latest data from FF calendar. I run it maybe 2-3 times every day, in case there are belated additions or changes in FF calendar (which is often the case).

This wonderful tool could be made even more wonderful by having the display appear in a window instead of as an overlay on the main chart.

It would eliminate much clutter when tracking mulitple currencies in metatrader, methinks!

I have a separate 'dummy' chart that I use for informational indys - time zone clocks, tabular info for all pairs (spreads, swap, ADR, etc), Plot News and VO-Pro monitor - that I can refer to whenever I need to. That way, the charts that I trade off don't get cluttered with all this 'extra stuff'.

Anyway, I'll consider your request for a later release. It's not a trivial change; sizing the window to allow for the correct vertical alignment of both the symbols and rolling window will take some thought.

Wanting to get a csv file of the historical Forex Factory Calendar
Have downloaded your News v3003.zip and successfully ran the ffcal.exe
I only get data going up until 20-Aug-2010
What to do to get data up to current time (May-2011) ?

i might be misunderstanding, but i would think it would actually be just as easy or possibly easier. if you have a separate_window you then just spit out into it two buffers with the same values all of the time (e.g. 100 and zero). then you are just aligning the symbols above the zero value in the same way you currently align from the low or high of the relevant chart bar. you are just ripping out the low/high part and replacing with 0.

the rolling news ticker could be optionally placed on the chart or on the sub-window. being labels means they are trivial to align anyway.

being in a sub window would actually entirely fix the issue i was about to mention... that being that when backtesting with plot news for some reason unless the news file is read each and every bar then the positioning of the symbols does not update to under/over the bar and is aligned horizontally from the bar that is current when the symbol is initially plotted onto the chart the first time.

i was going to suggest not loading from file every x period and instead reworking it to load everything once from file into arrays and then just plotting from the arrays instead of unnecessarily doing file reads.

but, a sub window would be a hack that would get around this issue entirely anyway.

i was going to write my own indi to do this, but really couldn't be stuffed re-inventing a wheel that's almost perfect anyway.

Thanks for your suggestions. They make a lot of sense.

I haven't looked at the code for several months. I do my best to keep up with everybody's requests across several different indys, but I have other priorities at present, and my comment about it requiring "some thought" was perhaps an excuse not to have to revisit the code immediately, more than anything else.

I'd also been PM-d about some other possible enhancements, not to mention the suggestions made by pips4life back in February (see posts #111 onward). I figured that when I finally do get around to revisiting this indy, it would be more efficient to address them all at once.

Use the Convert to GMT.mq4 script (download from post #1). It does a better job, as it will convert to GMT+X, and adjust for daylight saving time from the FF calendar side of things).

Just noticed a bug in Recent News v310, if you specify MainChart = FALSE.

The indy will always attempt to plot in the bottommost sub-window. Hence if you subsequently add indys (e.g. RSI, MACD, etc - or third party creations) into new (lower) sub-windows, the news indy will jump windows, overplotting data in the bottommost sub-window. And its scaling will screw up, as the scaling is always set by the first indy to occupy a sub-window.

I'll fix it when I get some spare time.

Meantime, there's no problem so long as: whenever you add another indy, you then delete Recent News v310, and then re-attach it, to make it create a new (bottommost) sub-window for itself. Hope that makes sense.
