I am beginning to agree. I think I can trade this system at 50:1 just need to make some adjustments in my style. I think using just two reentries as a standard and maybe trading a 3 rd level occasionally rather than the I take em all like I did in the past, I can do this. I have been practicing with my 8x60 on the 4H charts and it seems to keep me in the two level category. With 2 levels and going to .05 per thousand instead of .10 per thousand I can still keep a decent profit return. Still doing my studies. 6 more weeks of working two jobs. You can see I am doing the count down to full time trading this summer.

Astral try putting the 8MA smoothed on the screen when price retouches the line take profit at the 5MA high on buys and 5MA low on sells and see if that makes a good profit point. This then will take in account the strong or weak fundamentals of a currency and will give you a quick read on when to take the profit. If the move is weak it will touch the 8MA quickly and you get out quickly, if the move stays inside you ride it until it touches and then set up a take profit EA using the 5MA high/low for taking profit. This also is the same point for reentry on losing trades rather than reentering around the 200 pip mark like we had been. A 2 level recovery system and we save the third level if price goes whacky against us. I have been having some success in trials using these JPY moves as my tests and keeping with only 2 levels even though price went against me 6-800 pips on some tests. This could keep us in winning trades for long periods of time on strong moves and get out on weak moves rather than guessing based on news events. Just a thought for now.

Hi Bob. I live in Australia so I am allowed to hedge. Do you have a hedging strategy to use on this trading method or would you suggest just sticking with using recovery? I was thinking about hedging at L2 at 2x lot size and then use CT method if hedge goes against me, as you suggested in recent posts. Thanks

after trying some different EAs based on your system, I get a result that the way NB5.3 trades is the best! Thank you again BOB!!!

But I used different reentry style. I used the same lot size all the time but different distance from last entry. I think this has effectively reduced my risks though sometime it may take longer to get to BE. Sorry for my poor English.

well well...again after a couple of weeks what went up now came down, lettiing me close every position with a little profit...even if the DD went over 35% for a couple of days...my fault..but now i know the forex meaning af a major earthquake with a little nuclear fallout!
again, great job bob with this system! the recovery is great, even if depends a lot on the trader to be applied correctly....some times we've to wait a lot sometimes not...sometimes it's useful to open a 1,5X position, sometimes 2X sometimes just 1X, it depends on S/R zones....
however: great great great!
sitting on a +6.5% profit in 20 days, even in these tragic days...
just have to try to apply seriously the 1.0 trend method to complete the trading styles...but this remains the greatest (5.3 with tmatrue but only primary or extreme trades...never in the middle!)

I can't get totally the edge idea..

If i have an edge that is in lost i must wait for the break into the 8ma and put an opposite trade that i close at the 5ma and then a counter trade?

If the edge is a sell, the first trade when the price break the 8ma is a buy and then again a sell when it reach the 5ma?

in this case i'd say the first trade that you should have taken was a buy, then hedged with a sell..
then wait till the break of the 8ma, then close the sell at the 5ma low, where you could open a new buy order to average down the first buy (you should calculate an appropriate lot size in order to end up with a be point closer than 100 pips, i use closer than the daily atr20)...
am i wrong?

wow, this period is a hell for this system...every trade simply goes kaboom in a while....not good at all....

Hi BOB

Thank you for your suggestion I will give it a go and see how it goes. Please find attached my results for the week ending 22nd April. As you can see another profit of $55 for the week. The DD is the highest this year. At one point it had gone down to $300 mark but now it is back up to $600+. I think this is manly due to the low volume due to the Easter break. This week is very dismal thus far (unless it moves during the second half of the week). Well we see what happens next.

A. look for break in the low on the light blue line 8MA.
B. Look for profit at the high 5MA black line
c. Put your counter trade at the 5MA high black line
D. Watch your trade and get out when you can.
E. Reenter the hedge if things go against you and wait for the next break low signal.



Hi, can anyone please direct to where I can get more information on this usage of the 8Ma and 5Ma?

I'm using the old 5.3 system(with the bollinger band) since November last year. It work well so far but it this month has been a major disappointment.

P.S. As you mentioned this month has been a bad month for NB Ver5. I was wondering if NB traders are using any methods to keep out of trending pairs. I am thinking of utilizing ADX (+DMI and -DMI) in order to filter out the trending pairs.

Now you mention, I'm so looking forward to any methods that is able to sieve out any potential trades. I believe most traders probably has adapted NB strategy according to their own style.

Hi Bob

Well, a turbulent 2 weeks. The market is giving NB VER5 very hard time at present. Please find attached my results for the last two weeks. Managed a reasonable profit of $138 for the period. At one point the DD rose to $1000 before dropping back to $400. It is now over $700, it may go higher and drop back down. I made the mistake of over trading in USD pairs and I am paying for this basic mistake. There are a lot of trades which are lingering for over two months and I will close them for a loss once they move more to my favour.

Has anyone tried using sell/buy limits only at past visual support resistance once a signal is given instead of with the EA's??? Or in the case or higher highs or lower lows at fib extention profit targets where price is likely to turn. Entering blindly seems..... less efficient.

I do only put an ea on when I see that there is some s/r line in the area. In general you only drop an ea on a chart when you like the setup.

This week so far has been slow for me, last week was good and I managed to cut down the drawdown and bank some profit. I still have some drawdown but it's nowhere near as big as it was right after the Japan earthquake. Most of April I've spent trying to deal with the drawdown taking few other trades. I'm not sure if that was wise or not. If I could have made profit on other currencies I could have used those to close negative trades. On the other hand, when you open a trade you always run a risk of even more dd. I guess that's trading

Hello my friend, I am so happy to see your post. It was getting very lonely here recently and it is good to know the older contributors are still alive and kicking.

The longer I trade this system and gain more experience the more I like it and feel comfortable with it. However, IMHO you need an a/c balance of $2000 to trade 10 cent lots and be comfortable with the running DD. This is the way I trade it, I know BOB does it with $1000, but he is a much better and more experienced trader.

Beginning of this year I set out to prove to all traders that this system can EASILY produce a profit of over 60% per annum with 50:1 margin and the silly NFA rules. I am well on track despite all the upheavals in the world.

I'm still here but usually I don't have much to contribute.

I agree that having a large enough account size is the key as you will always run into drawdown. 5-10% dd is well within my comfort zone, but over the Japan crisis it has been as large as 40%. At the moment it's back to 12% so I am getting closer to the point where I feel happy to trade some more. For now I am still being very conservative.

Well not anymore, with the new regs I am dropping to .05 per thousand which is .10 per 2000. However, I am dividing my first two levels into .02 and .03 lots. This equals the .05. I then used .05 as my third level using the formula earlier of the 8 x60 to reenter and it works out pretty good. Still playing with it. I just got done with a 2 month test of using .02 and .03 lots on a thousand and the account gained 23.7%. Hit some DD that reached 22% just after the earthquake and Greek rumor default 2 but it is moving along. 10% a month is my goal and able to weather large moves comfortably. If I use 2000 dollars then my gain is almost 12% or 6% a month and DD is 11%. That is very acceptable for bad times. 3 more weeks of 2 jobs and I am back in business again. I am getting excited about trading again.

Good to hear your coming back bob! It's amazing how quiet the threads go when your not around. Those are incredible numbers and I wanted to ask you bob if you have ever considered doing a webinar / youtube video documenting some of your trades on the 5.0 4h system for people to view.

I think it would give great exposure to a great system.
