Gold is at record highs with the expectations of the price of Oil to keep climbing. Seems the most logical answer, Australia is the only currency that's bucked the curve, and also with gold as its main export seems a no brainier why the AUDUSD is also sitting on record highs.

jobs being created = USD currency being spent. It does strengthen the economy of the US in the long run. Short term, the dollar is being spent towards immunity of the economy which depreciates the dollar. Eventually it will resume.

Well, I've actually heard that there's a conspired plan to devalue the dollar to let's say.....dollar index of 60 or 50? and Oil at 150, which is RIGHT ON TRACK....so expect that, THEn a bounce.....as the US exports more and starts drilling its own deep potential oil reserves. This is a longer term outlook, but it's not unreasonable to expect 150 oil and dollar index at 50 by this summer, no sir, quite realistic unfortunately....

Quite alarming news. As the media is picking up on this, I believe things will be moving fast the next months. I can't imagine an Asian country would be wanting to get further involved in US debt anymore.

Reinhart and Rogoff find that when government debt exceeds 90% of GDP, this significantly negatively impacts economic growth. I'm not a big fan of this specific study, but I do suspect that in the US specific situation, economic growth will be adversely affected sooner or later.

And now I just read that obama wants to increase taxes for people earning more than 250,000 a year.

the USD will be such a short for the next couple of years, if that goes through.

I am thinking of converting my savings from euros to USD at about 1,50, dollar weakness cannot go on forever.

What in my opinion is sure, is that current policy the QE's garantee one thing and thats inflation.
What do you think that idiot Bernanke will do?
He prob will tell that inflation is a real concern but under current economic conditions rates will stay low for a while.
An inflated currency with low interest rate...... I see no end of it's decline.
USD-owners have and will quietly dump USD's so who covers US'ses debt.
Right almighty Bernanky he will cut the last forest print some more and enter his helicopter.
I really can't see a positive way to get out of this mess.
I've been investing in commodities (except gold/silver) the last few year's and presume I will be doing so for the coming 10 years.

Why would you say that? I think increasing taxes is great. A lot of harm has already been done, but reducing the government deficit should help the US credibility issue in the future, right?
Also - and correct me if I'm wrong - US income tax rates are historically low. Of course everybody is entitled his own opinion about the role of government and their prefered level of taxes, but hypothetically there would be "room" for raising taxes.

Fundamentally the difference between PIIGS and other modern economies isn't really that big, and it is quite possible for economies that up until recently seemed to be doing OK to suddenly flip to the other side. It can just be a small event that sets in motion a self-reinforcing cycle that leads to despair. With small "gestures" like tax raises, you might be able to bring faith and postpone this scenario.

As someone else stated income tax is only one of the many taxes US Citizens are hit with, what about state income tax, sales tax, property tax (house, car, RV, boat, land, etc...).
