I clicked on your profile to see threads you've started and took a look at this one. First I thought it would not be a serious thread (there are plenty similar to this one) but I am surprised to see very very good responses here.

My path was something like this:

1. Find a system which gives you slightly over 50% priftable trades at R:R 1:1 (I tested with LFH simulator). This is the period where you stop switching systems and start thoroughly testing one.

2. Find ways in which you could improve the system to your favor. For example, when price reaches 2:1 add 50% of your original position and let it ride until 1:1, here you close most of it and leave some little of it to ride the trend if there is one. If your original pos was 1 lot, you add 0.5 at 2:1. When trade looks good, you add to it. If it is a looser from beginning on, your loss would be smaller than your win (25% smaller).
In the end, it's these little things that make a system profitable. I found out most systems give the same signals...

If you let two beginners take opposite trades one buys the other sells, they will both lose money.

I thought i'd offer my 2 cents ..
I'm using/developing a system based on ema crossovers but with CCI + stoch as trigger.
The system, as in rules for entry, exit and money management, works but i think it'll depend massively on the person using it.

Add to your 15m/1h charts:
- 20 ema
- 80 ema
- Daily and weekly pivots
- 15 CCI (with -100 and 100 levels)
- 9,3,3 stochs (with 20 and 80 levels)

Long entry.
- 20 above 80
- CCI is below -100 reversing back towards the 100
- stoch is below 20 reversing back towards 80
Entry order above previous high (can be a candle). SL below previous low or DP.
TP will be previous resistance and/or DP, D-R1, DR-2, etc.

Short entry.
- 20 below 80
- CCI is above 100 reversing back towards the -100
- stoch is above 80 reversing back towards 20
Entry order above previous low (can be a candle). SL above previous high or DP.
TP will be previous support and/or DP, D-R1, DR-2, etc.

Money Management:
- risk 2% of your account per trade
- i usually sell (or buy) half-stake at 30pips on the 15min chart and at 50 on 1h.

i have been browsing through ff for a few months now. there are way too many trading systems here on ff and most of them dont make any pips in the long run. CORRECT!!!

so to cut out the nonsense and help everyone to seek out the best trading systems , i have started this thread.

GREAT IDEA: "almost" impossible task.
Here´s proven successfull system: open a brokerage company with tons and tons of cash, get the best specialsts, gun all the stops, of almost every system on this forum (and any others for that matter), have fun, enjoy your profits, and have a big laugh on top.
Big smart money is geared to wipe out every single account.It´s likke sitting on a poker table , you play against good and bad traders, so far so good, BUT, one trader , the best of all, has the most amount of cash AND at the same time has the privilege of reading everybody´s cards on the table!!!!!!!!(they can see all the orders, of big and small players, all the time, real time!!, try and beat that!..and of course they trade too)

So just try and beat HIM...Ever wondered how often you get the perfect signal, timing, etc.. just to see your trade turn and loose money.... again, like it was magic... (or black magic)?
Imposible task?...no, the only chance is to be able to read HIS game (somehow), exact position sizing (forget about lots and mini lots unless you have more than 100000), "LOts trading" is part of the design to upset any reasonable, position sizing, which is the single most important variable in a system...far more important than entry and exit..
Open an account with OANDA, equalize your position size to 1 R (whatever size is your risk), they let you buy and sell 1 US lots...(ie. risk 1 Cent?)...test your trading, or better your BIG BOYS with SMART MONEY reading.
By the way, OANDA´s also "trading" against you...
The game is "almost impossible" (unlike Roulette or lottery, they are mathematically impossible).

So once you understand the above, and quit dreaming about a "sweet working sysrem" (what do you think everyone in this forum is looking for!!!), face the odds straight in the eyes, you can begin studying...maybe after years of practice you end up within the less than 5% chosen few who make it..
Don´t forget most traders are intelligent people with some money (engineers , doctors and math and software experts, etc..).
Ever wondered why these intelligent folks ALSO loose consistently..(consitently is the key word here).??

SMART MONEY is the secret, learn how to follow them and you´ll be rich...and that´s an art, cause that´s the last thing THEY want you and me to learn..

it would save a lot of time for people, especially newbies , if we could list the trading systems that we have used and that have proven to be good pipmakers in the long run. i.,e. the trading systems that actually DO work and have been tried and tested for a good length of time. so please list your trading systems below. it would save a lot of people a lot of time and stop them from wasting days and days trying to find a good system and then testing it for a few months (only to realise it doesn't work in the long run !).

I always love when people say: the big guys are out to get you, you gotta think like the big guys,...
Largely the forex movements are dependent on money inflows & outflows of a country. If investors, hedge-fund managers or speculators seek superior returns in stocks in the USA, they will need to convert their cash into USD to buy those stocks. That creates the big movements we see on the charts.
Same is with international companies hedging their exposure to foreign currency movements. Guess what, when they hedge a couple of hundred millions to billions on the market, then you see a big spike, you might assume that professionals just triggered your stops, but in effect there was just a big order coming in from a company trying to hedge.
From my point of view it is ridiculous to think that the big guys are going after us. We are a too small fish to fry. They would never ever meet their yearly targets by collecting our small amounts of money.
And now to my last point. It is funny that people then always say: we gotta think like the big guys. And then the very same people are trading intraday. Big guys have too large positions to be able to trade intraday.

I just saw this thread and read a few posts. I haven't read the entire thread but I thought I would quickly jump in with my thoughts on the subject in general.

If I could offer any advice to new traders it would be this...

Many systems can be profitable in the market conditions they were designed for, the telling aspect is how do they handle periods when the condition is not perfect. It is not good enough to say I trade X system for trending periods and Y system for range bound periods as often a new trader will not be able to identify what market condition they are in until the condition is changing again and hence they will keep getting caught using the wrong system in the wrong condition.

So what is the answer... for me pick a system that works extremely well in the condition it is designed for and limits your losses during the inevitable times when the system performs badly. You need to understand that you will have losses when trading, as sure as you will have to pay taxes, you will take a loss as a trader and maybe even a string of losses. The secret is surviving these periods.

When testing a system, a 2 year period on one pair is not nearly enough data to be sure of a systems performance. You want at least a decades data maybe more and on different instruments. This way you can be sure that you have not curve fitted the system.

If you want an example of a system that works well in the long run... so not month on month but more or less year on year, you can look at something like DanUK's trend following system, or the thread by NightMoves or even mine. Ultimately these systems all have one thing in common, they are trend following systems, I am not saying range trading systems don't work I am just giving you examples of an approach that I wholeheartedly believe in, trade myself, and have tested myself.

Nearly finished? I doubt, you`ll ever finish your research, as the journey is the pleasure....

Seriously, can`t you just give us an intermediate pre alpha report ? Or something like: A. The Top Five for H4 traders B. The Top 5 for H1 traders C. the Top 5 for M15 Traders....

then believe there is something everyone else knows that you dont.......

After that, you may start to get your emotions in check and after massive amounts of reading forums, you come almost full circle but with greater wisdom . From here you can start again with more refined attitude :-)

I have been no stranger to 30% gains in 30 minutes. It can be done. and you just have to get your brain used to learning and not criticizing new information untill you have jumped in and really examined it.

Oh by the way, the best thing to help you is AUDIO BOOKS! Massive amounts on psychology, motivation and philosophy that REALLY helped me!

Oh yes, I absolutely agree.....But the only big problem is : "How to know when is the right time you can sell HIGHER"?.....

No system or trader is profitable all the time.You as a trader needs to develop a trading system that is right for you. That is why you need to understand yourself first. When you understand yourself you will eventually know when you have the system that is right for you personality.

Best system anywhere is 5 years in front of the screen working with two to three crosses. If you have money left after that you probably have a system.

No substitute.
