imho I don't think you need one. If you think a swing point you see on a 5m TF is important, look at a one hour chart, or at least a 15m chart. If it's not visible on either of those, chances are it's not significant.

You make a good point here.

• My take on this is that the trend is up, which for learning purposes is the trump card.

• The divergence is obvious, however the candle that gives you the divergence is also just a quick spike. And not a very big spike at that.

I saw that trade after the fact and wasn't sure which way I would have gone. My personal preference on this trade method is to only take the perfect set ups, thereby avoiding loosing trades as much as possible. Then if you are trading up to 3% on each trade, Your account gets happy almost all of the time.

The trade I just took on the aud/usd, posted just above here, I considered to be perfect for these reasons.

• Trend Up
• No bumps on the way up. No hills and valleys, this was the 1st pull back. 1st pull backs have alot of power.
• Beginning of session.
• Aussie usually trends well.

Yeah it took the patience of Job to hang in there 25 minutes for 11.6 pips, but that's what you gotta do. The absolute most difficult thing for me is just that.

So in my spare time, I go back over the charts and find the set ups. Then I see how many of them go to winners. This is a good way, at least for me, to build my confidence level, to be able to sit there for several 5m bars and do nothing. Maybe it will work for you too.

RSI is usually calculated on close price (check your setting). So using the wick for divergence can be misleading in my opinion.

Thanks for your quick feedback. It seems to me (i may be wrong), that divergence like this happens quite often and I'm not sure if it disqualifies the trade or not ... I really like your AUD/USD setup but actually i have spotted a divergence there, as well.

Hehe ... or maybe I simply spend to much time in front of charts ... and I see divergence everywhere ... maybe next I will start to hear voices ...hehe

You know I did not have rsi on that chart cause I just added a/u to my watch list. Just added it and did see divergence. Short area of divergence and price fell 20 pips right after that. Not sure if that all has much meaning but you are both correct.
So guys, what price takes out the uptrend. 190,140? I see some major resistance at around 280.
Neither do I ... let's wait the opinion of Mr Divergence :-)
