Ok, I am close to my 4th sheet to the wind. Those two pre-dinner whishkeysh followed by the wine then the post dinner whishkeysh (and you really don't want to know how long it took me to type that little lot) have left me slightly incompesmentis. Incompismentis? Fissed as a phart?

Whatever, I just picked up this from pipo:
Backtesting TOB/w ChaserL stuff etc OOTB. Only taking sells. SmartTraderFx, IBFX(US), and FXDD(US). If this is stupid just ignore it. P

So I ran a backtest on the only pair that would stay still long enough to allow me and found the same thing. So, given the state I am in right now and the fact that I am away tomorrow and most of Tuesday, can I ask you guys to keep an eye open on the trades and either yay or nay pipo's observation?

Hi Steve,
My gut feeling says Pippo is spot on.....I started this bot on forward test on Mon the 14th and I can't find a long trade setup on this bot since the 15th and it was cancelled. That's sure grounds for a check up....
I just watched it miss a good USDCHF long setup about 5 min ago, but I watched it miss a EURJPY short setup that I thought it should have taken also.....Maybe a little more time to cook?
And it is trading short......

I agree as well, only placing sell orders. Some nice set ups for buy's but nothing placed.

I had a logic failure. I had TOB checking the re-entry line even though it would not exist because there was no trade in place.

The re-entry value was zero, so the market was always above it and so TOB could send sells; it could never send buys.

Fix in post 1.

Forexjlcg, thanks for that. This is taken care of elsewhere in the code and so is unnecessary in GetSixths().

I am away for a couple of days, so I will leave you guys to play to your hearts content.

of my latest contribution, and thereby emboldened, I ask that the Great One program an MM algo into TOB. Fixed Ratio, SVP, per account balance. Perhaps .01 lot per $100.00, per number of pairs traded. At $1,000.00 balance, trading 5 pairs.... 1000/100x.01/5=.02 lots risk/trade per pair.

There's something about TOB that's still causing my platforms to freeze. I have other EAs on other platforms, and its not happening with them, so I know the problem is with TOB.

I am running TOB on Alpari & Gomarkets demo and Gomarkets live and I am not having any problems.

I have no problems either. You can try eliminating some possibilities, by doing the following:
1. delete all versions of the beast from your pc / vps
2. go to the attachments section of this thread.
3. go through the list and you will see a number of files names old beast, new beast
4. choose four or five of them and download.
5. download by left clicking and choosing "save as"
6. give each file a different name (I find the best method is giving them name+ date e.g. the new beast 17dec2010,)

try different files and see which one does not give your pc any problems.

Thanks, I don't know why this is happening with mine then. I've reloaded TOB on my charts and it's still happening.

1. I only used about half of my VPS resources(memory) while running two instance of MT4(right click task bar then "task manager")
2. changed and reduces "max bar in chart" from 65,000 to 5,000 helps minimize resource usage.
3. My EA file on VPS always get update with a copy and paste procedure - right click EA then modify. I make a note of size of EA(86.1kb) at top of notepad before I copy(ctrl c), and then paste onto my VPS in metaeditor and compile (once thought I should disable "Expert Advisors", before compiling, but I don't think that's necessary.
4. always clear GV when running different EA on the same instance of MT4, and attached EA on a new 1hr chart wouldn't hurt for TOB and Beastie.

This morning, I loaded the latest revision of TOB with ChaserL stuff. Apparently, there are some issues with duplicate orders around the same price.

The only reliable way that I could think of doing this would be to autogenerate magic numbers to track the trades. I've done this in other EA's, but Steve goes to great lengths to avoid anything that lets brokers know you are trading with an EA. I doubt he'd be up for magic number based management. Other possible ways are to record the trades to files. However, this is error prone as many traders (including myself) run on different installations or different machines. Trades could get easily lost...

That said, if Steve would be interested in magic number based management, I'd be glad to take a shot at coding it... But I don't want to put a lot of work into something that he'd be opposed to...(I guess I could write it so that you could choose)...

Hi Folks!

I started one of the Original Beast versions on 11/15/2010, just a little over 3 months ago. Running OOTB on the following pairs: EU, GU, EJ, GJ and AU. (oops forgot the EG pair too) Was trading .03 lots, but just bumped it to .04 this morning. It has been running totally hands off. I started the demo account with $3000. Check out thaat nice smooth equity curve! The winning percentage is 76%. The account is currently at $4171.75. That is an increase of 39% in just over 3 months!!!! Current DD is only -$11 (Note: DD has been as much as $500 - That can be scary, but it always seems to come back)

Profit Trades (% of total):137 (76.11%)Loss trades (% of total):43 (23.89%)

Steve, why work on anything else? If we can find a way to filter a bit more and limit the DD this is the only thing anyone would ever need.

I don't know it the TOB in post 1 is the same version or not, this version was the most ccurrent as of 11/15/2010. Maybe recent improvents have made this eeven better. I plan on downloading the version in post 1 and setting it up on a seperate account and let it chug away. I am temping to take $1K and go live with this puppy based on the last 3 months forward testing...

Minimum number of Pips away from last trade before re-entry

I agree with you that TOB has proven to be solid robot. As others have mentioned elsewhere, DD is part of trading and if the robot can manage to consistently grow your balance even with a constant DD of 10-15-20%, it shouldn't be a problem.

The winning percentage is actually much better (probably close to 100%!) if you consider groups of trades (primary & recovery) as one. Meaning, every losing trade in the history tab is followed by a corresponding recovery trade, resulting in net positive pips.

Finally, I also agree that more time should be dedicated to polishing this robot and working out the minor kinks that remain, so that we can test out the strategy for what it's worth - without the hiccups.

We're all humbled by the work Steve and others have done here. Their hard work is certainly paying off.
