If you want to read a fascinating, and funny, book about roulette prediction (yes, prediction), get The Eudaemonic Pie.

It's about a group of PhD students at UC Santa Clara that built a roulette computer, using the laws of physics, that gave them an expectation of final position within one-quarter of the wheel. The actual computer was hidden in shoes and bras.

It was funded by one of the group, Norm Packard, of the HP founding family. Another was Doyne Farmer, now one of the "names" in chaos theory, who modeled the chaotic effect of the little metal protrusions on a wheel.

Odds don't really figure in roulette, each spin is a discrete event, wheel & ball have no memory...

Just did a quick Google search. Apparently that's the longest documented run. There is a recorded report of a much longer run in the 17th century, and much longer runs in simulations, but at least at Monte Carlo, that looks to be it.

Did you count the zero? I think Monte Carlo was/is a single green wheel (American wheels are double-green), so the odds for a color are 18/37, not 18/36.

Nope, but, even still, trends can be seen or made apparent simply on chance.

Hmm... anyone ever tried applying fib's to roulette?

1 + 1 = 2; (two blacks) = next red
1 + 2 = 3 (black > two reds) = next black
2 + 3 = 5 (two reds > three blacks) = next black
3 + 5 = 8 (8 blacks) = next red.

Just to clarify, I mean the odds of black are still 18/37 (European wheel) even if you've just had a run of 40 blacks, the odds don't change as the sequence progresses.
