Xaron,

Assume I open a live account with MT4 , will I be able to switch to Fxtrade later on if I don't like MT4 ?
Ignored
your account will be opened normally with fxtrade then you connect a sub account with MT4

So you will be able to place a trade through MT4 and 1 second later you can place a trade through Fxtrade ?

Is it possible to run both platforms at the same time ?

MT4 is just a platform, like other platforms (tradestation, eSignal,NJ,etc) they are all tools and it seems MT4 is the most popular in retail FX. If you don't like this tool then use others or building yourself one via API.

Regarding to ads, 50/50 promotion, I don't see any wrong here. It only signal that the forex br0ker bussiness is very competitive now, and Oanda needs more "ways" to boost their market share or revenue, just like other business. Even Deutsche Bank(not DBFX), the biggest FX player all the long time, buy ads every where.

Best,

This is great news for me. Ever since getting booted out of CMS Forex I've been desperately searching for a broker with both a great desktop software AND a solid mobile application for BlackBerry...like CMS had. Oanda's MT4 is perfect because I can view and trade positions created in MT4 on my computer, using their fxTrade mobile app for BlackBerry. I don't have to use MT4 mobile, (which only works for Windows Mobile phones). With fxTrade/fxGame mobile I just switch from the Primary account and activate the MT4 account. It's great!

I spoke to an Oanda agent today and was informed that it'll still be a while before MT4 goes live, but I'll definitely be there when it does.

Is the execution fast or it suffers from the typical MT4 bridge connection delay? (like FXCM... MT4 is 3 times slower as the TS2)

Please correct me if I'm mistaken (being not familiar with computer hardware)

(1) If you do scalping with Oanda (esp. on 1M time frame), you better use FX trader rather than MT4 because FX trader is faster in execution.

(2) If (1) is correct, it applies to MBT (MT4 vs MBT Desktop) as well as Alpari (MT4 vs Alpari Direct).

Your input will be very much appreciated!!!

I don't understand your comment. Probably 1M is not important for you. I however take it very seriously.

I'm trying to fathom how using MT4 from the client end can be beneficial to the client...?

  1. I would not consider running an EA on my brokers chosen terminal.
  2. I wouldn't even consider running any indicators on my brokers chosen terminal.

MT4 is a great platform for charting, but why take the risk of giving your secrets away? If Oanda, (or anyone else for that matter), is able to easily see how their clients trade, the scope for abuse and skullduggery is vast. If you're a longer TF trader, then chart with another broker and execute trades only with your own broker.

Maybe Oanda don't like the hidden order aspect of someone like fxspyder? Either way, MT4 for trading is a road to pain IMO.

Only 3 weeks ago I withdrew all my money from my Oanda account and opened a Alpari UK account in order to use my custom EA. And also because I'm so sick of having the Oanda platform disconnect 2-10 times a day.

Now Oanda is going to offer MT4!

And now I'm reading so much negativity about 'market makers' and that ECN is so much better etc.. (yes I know this is old news, but I live on the moon)

So I'm thinking:
1- I open a ECN acount with dukascopy and use the MT4 bridge or translate my EA to java code.
2- I transfer my money back to Oanda as soon as MT4 live trading is possible.
3- Or I stick with Alpari uk.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It depends what kind of EA you have: scalping (definetly Oanda; Dukascopy should be the last option because of commissions), news trading (Dukascopy), any other form (all three of them).
