I used orange line only as aid to project range we have successfully to travel in order to left opposing flag behind: in reality, it was probably not needed to wait for that (but did not hurt either).

WMD presented to us there a method of understanding the essentials of market in terms of support and resistance (tested and untested) for identification of key horizontal levels of interest (Deadly Accuracy method) and in terms of boost and consolidation for vertical movement among them (Simple Accuracy method; SAM).

Poles and flags might be considered synonyms for boost and consolidation respectively, as Supply/Demand Delta Zone might be considered corresponding term for Support/Resistance area.

Back to you original question what Pole means: it is identification of currently prevalent order-flow.

But there is more to it: imagine you throw-in 100 mil. USD into the market moving it for 10 pips. That sounds good, but you are unable to realize profit unless someone else joins your selling/buying afterwards -- you would just end at the point you started plus transaction costs to cover. And imagine further yet that someone else throws-in 50 mil. USD in opposite direction -- you are now unable to withdraw from your position without realizing 50 mil. USD loss.

That is where Flag comes into play: it compresses efforts of the opposing side to your trade into a narrow range, meaning there is constant buying into their selling or vice-versa. They have now to put disproportional effort to even arrive at the price where pole started. As their endeavour will probably be over-turned, pole indicates range price might travel when this over-turning happens.

Failing to understand them, you are just cannon fodder smoothing-out market's liquidity curve (true reason why you were invited to participate in the first place).
