I don't like misguiding marketing-campaigns. Alpari is probably the most aggressive marketing-broker around the block and the new campaign to attract clients most be the worst I have seen so far. I can't believe people fall for it.

Be aware of if you lose money, they remove it from your INITIAL deposit, NOT the trading-credit (source: Alpari, e-mail: "Please note that during the promotion, any losses are deducted from your balance, not the trading credit").

In practice, the only "positive" thing you get from this great campaign, is a higher leverage since the bonus only can make you buy larger positions. Thats practical when you have a 1:100 leverage
My bad, I forgot you get the bonus if you trade at least 200 (standard, 100k) lots if you make a 1000$ deposit and 800 lots if your depositing 5k! What a deal, thats a turnover of 20.000.000 units !

For the record, I have nothing against Alpari, I have traded with them before without any major complication (except hopeless customer-service).

It's not only Alpari. Other brokers also offer a bonus deposit. This is not so uncommon... and if you are familiar with online poker, there it is common practice.

No broker has money to give away, so it is sure that all losses will be credited to the clients funds.

The bonus is only to increase leverages, as you already pointed out. That is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you can trade twice the position size at the same risk. On the other hand, the risk doubles if you take only your funds into account.

It is marketing. But the decision to overleverage is up to each client himself.
Those who would overleverage with their own funds will also overleverage with that bonus.

All true.

Not hard to understand Alpari's segment when it comes to marketing. Amateurs with too much cash to blow of.

I'm with you on this one. Always hated such campaigns.

The only time I've ever seen an honest marketing offer was when
CMS Forex gave away free 500 USD Live Accounts.
After 20-30 roundturns you could with draw what's left of the account
or use it just like a normal live account.

Yeh that sounds good, but the credit bonus mentioned above is a crock, just market maker tactics to get you to over trade in the pursuit of a couple free dollars.

Good Trading.

This was quite some time ago, did any of you get a free account? Wonder how much they put out for that promotion.

I remember that campaign some years ago. I agree, it was actually a good one.
