I have been using tick trading some time with great success, but alas with NinjaTrader now not allowing any free tick data access, I had to look for an alternative. I was able to find a way to use MetaTrader as a tick chart just like I did with NinjaTrader.

I am hoping that this thread will open the possibility of tick trading systems to the community. Please post any templates or ticks you are having success with.

To begin with I will share how to convert your Metatrader chart into a tick chart.

1. Open any 1 minute naked chart.
2. Drop "logtickdata" indicator onto the chart
3. Very important to wait for the ticks to start logging at bottom
4. Once ticks have started logging, drop the indicator PostTickData into the window that you created with LogTickdata indicator.
5. When you drop the PostTickData indicator you will need to change the number from 5, other wise the default setting is 5 ticks. (I like using 133 tick charts)
6. Now go to your offline charts and you will find the tick chart you just created. Just double click on it and you have your new chart. You can now put just about any template on it and experiment from there.

Enjoy

Hi!

Did a test run on Metatrader today with EURUSD. The template is from the RSG system. For comparisonīs sake find both 1min chart to the left and tick data chart on the right hand side.

For better recognition the trade entry is marked (red line) and the range is captured in the colored box.

Cheers,

Nice layout. Like I said in my first post, I was using a different platform that offered free tick data, that is no longer available, so I had to find an alternative, and the tick posting facility for metatrader was the closest thing I could find.

Its not perfect, but it is better than nothing. Everyone finds there own style of trading that works for them, and they embrace it. That is what I have done.

Hi,

what do you mean by "autorefresh"?

Data keeps coming in constantly.

Glad you are sharing this!

I am getting only 3 bars in my offline chart.
How do I increase this?

Thanks again, and hope the thread develops.

Thanks for the suggestion....but find that it is checked.

Seems the bars just have to build, and eventually they
are accumulating over time (via ticks).

Yes, you need to have it running for a while to accumulate data before it becomes tradable.

Kept my computer on overnight in order to get the data for a few pairs this morning.
