what is the difference between a script and EA?

Hi, anyone could answer the above question?

I know their purpose of use, but i don know how to distinguish between their source code. Could anyone explain please?

Script: has a start() function only (that gets executed once, when script is attached to chart). Scripts can be found in folder ..../experts/scripts

EA: has start(), init() and deinit() functions. (init()/deinit() are executed only once each, when EA is attached/removed from a chart, while start() is executed upon every new tick). EAs can be found in folder ..../experts

Expert Advisor: is a program that can automate trading for you. For example it can send a buying order to the broker server for execution at specified time or conditions. It can automate your stop loss/take profit automatically; it can cancel, replaces or closes your orders. The Experts has no access to the indicator functions. • Custom Indicator: is a program that enables you to use the functions of the technical indicators for analyzing the price data. But it cannot automate your trades.
• Script: is a program designed for single task execution. Unlike the Advisor, scripts could be executed only one time (when you attach them to a chart) and it removes itself after the execution of the last line of its code. It will NOT reside in the chart (Like the experts). The Scripts too has no access to the indicator functions.

Just a note BUT scripts can be run continuously. Just code them with an init, deinit and start function and put them on a timer.

It is a work around when you want two EAs on a chart or if you want a script to work more then once.

Note that you can get trade context busy errors if both are trying to trade etc.

As an example I use the following EA as a script and it works just as i stated.

Download it, put it in your script folder, compile it and test it in demo.

I only put this note up as while the two previous answers were completely correct and in line with the documentation, this can come in handy at times.

I realize that this is beyond the context of this particular post. I originally was going to PM this note but I cannot PM Hanover so i posted it publicly.

Many thanks for the info. I didn't realize that a script would recognize the init() and deinit() functions. I just complied a script with a unique MessageBox() in each of the three functions, and it performed them in this order: init(), start(), deinit().
