difference between consumer confidence and consumer sentiment

I believe the difference between the two is that consumer sentiment is a leading indicator in that it has some merit on the future outlook where as consumer confidence is lagging as the report is produced at the end of the month from that month's data...please correct my understanding if it's otherwise.
