Hi Chris, The last I heard the restart was 2pm Aust. time (before today). Is that correct?
Thanks
Ignored
It changed a couple of weeks ago as the 2pm was deemed to be a bad time for the server to restart. You will notice that the server does not restart every day as it is only required to do so if the time is not synchronised. Also, it does sometimes occur around 45 minutes earlier if server activity is particularly quiet.

As you are all aware the clocks changed in some parts of Australia this week, but they do not change in the UK until October 31st and in the US until November 7th. The time on the server etc is the same as always, but those areas where the clocks changed will be seeing things an hour later than normal such as start of the trading week and daily restarts.

We would prefer to have trading start earlier on a Monday morning and will be sending a message to our clients later today I expect regarding this.
Ignored

So does this mean you’re going to start at 8am Aus daylight time, which will be 7am Aus standard time?

We will send a message to our clients shortly. There are a couple of options for starting earlier, which we are reviewing to try and get the most suitable situation to all clients.

Hi Chris

I thought, regardless the "change" of time due to DST, GoM MT4 platform would stay as GMT+2?

Pls. comment.

Cheers

I thought you would be interested in the below that we just sent out through the platform:

Dear Client,
As you are aware the clocks changed in some parts of Australia this weekend and are due to change in the UK on October 31st and in the US on November 7th. Whilst the time of our server is unaffected, the start of the trading week for those in Sydney and Melbourne among other areas is now 09:00 AM. Our MetaTrader4 currently allows trading from 00:00 on Monday until 23:00 on Friday, which is 09:00 AM Monday to 08:00 AM Saturday morning in Melbourne.
In an effort to offer the best trading conditions possible to clients we would like to offer some options to our clients:
Option 1 – No Changes
Option 2 – Change the time zone of our server from GMT+2 to GMT. This will mean that the majority of Expert Advisors will need to be updated manually and the trading week will commence at 22:00 (07:00 AM Melbourne time) and close at 21:00 server time. This would also result in the charts having six days per week, with the first of those being for the two-hour period from 22:00 to 23:59.
Option 3 – Change the start of the trading week to be 23:00 Sunday. This would equate to 08:00 AM Melbourne time. Please note that this would also result in the charts having six days per week, with the first of those being for the one-hour period from 23:00 to 23:59.
Please send your preferred option along with your name and account number to [email protected] and we will attempt to input the changes, if applicable, over the coming weekend.
Regards,
GO Markets

FYI, Go is not excepting anymore US clients and they will issue a email this week to whether or not the current US clients will be shut down. He wouldn't say for sure but did say it doesn't look good. Fucking Obama.

The following statement is now on GoMarket's account opening website at http://www.gomarketsaus.com/accountopening.html

"Due to the new CFTC regulations we are currently in discussions with our lawyers in Australia and the US with regards to how to proceed with new US applications. In the meantime, we will not be processing any new applications from the United States of America until further notice in order to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience."

Just to keep you updated,

At the moment we are simply waiting on an answer back from our lawyers, who are also liaising with specialist US lawyers.
We stand by the fact that why should we even know what new rules the CFTC impose as we are regulated by ASIC so why would they be relevant to us , but we have a duty of care to all clients so we will await the outcome from our legal team before making a final decision.

Cheers for your patience it really is an unusual a scenario that is out of our hands.

I just put in for a withdrawl, I'm a little worried about them having a mass exodus all in one day.

Todder,

Quite understand your concerns but I will safely say that all client funds are held at the NAB so if you wish to withdraw this will be processed with 24 hours.
I would also like to mention that US clients only make a very small portion of our clients so hopefully we will be able to continue to allow them to trade with us as normal and will let you guys know asap.

Cheers

GoM is based in Australia and therefore needs to listen to and take into account its Australian clients, otherwise it may as well move to another country and dump its Australian clientele and we go elsewhere. Australia is a different time zone than the USA and GoM needs to consider that.

FX is an international industry, a specific client or broker location has no meaning whatsoever. You want to be able to start trading when the big institutions do and to end it when they do.

The following is what I've just sent to Chris:

"The end of the New York session (17:00 EST/EDT, EST=GMT-5) is the generally accepted end/start of the forex trading day. Swaps are done at this time. Major bank servers are turned on at this time on Sundays. The majority of retail brokers I’m aware of start their trading days at this time. So I can see no other plausible day start than this hour.

And no, I’m not an American and I don’t exhibit any cultural bias or economic imperialism J.

Whatever you decide – I am grateful to you personally and appreciate GoM’s policy of transparency and sharing in decisions".

ilanr,
Thank you for your reply.
As you have seen, GoM has sent out a message with 3 options asking for each member to reply with their choice.
I’m happy to accept the final decision, whatever it may be.

not really paid much attention to the demo but it seems fine. Had no problem with the live.

As for the time, I am not bothered, but I guess earlier would be better.

For your information, these are the interim results:

As you can see, option 1 - no changes is currently winning.
