DislikedI just looked around in the forex factory forum for some quality range trading threads. Quite amazingly, besides james16 there are not really good threads concerning that topic in the forum (at least I haven't found them).
Very interesting actually, since the market is ranging around more often than it is trending. Maybe range trading is just too difficult for most people, and that's why there is not more written about it.
Or do you guys know any good threads about range trading?Ignored

I posted two charts about that a couple of posts later. Basically I trade from one S/R level to the next. Allows me to be in the market almost all the time and doesn't try my patience in waiting for the next setup.
Well, it is not only a range trading strat, but also trend trading strat. But of course nothing is fail-safe, but I like it. Won't get me to do anything irrational, since I have the trading action / frequency now I need to keep my trading heart pumping. It just fits my personality better than waiting for days for a setup to evolve.

i suppose this is the strategy you developed to trade ranges? or am i wrong in assuming this?
could you give me a visual example if you dont mind Custos?
also, with regards to range trading i think one of your safer bets would be the j16 thread.

yea its 1hr tick chart. same info as 1hr, i just use it out of preference for the cleaner p.a. on occasion.
a while ago i mentioned flips with the trend. today was one type of example. hope it helps. those lines are the same lines from the non-hindsight ss as you'll see. I chose to take the 2nd flip personally. zoom in to determine your entry is what i do, i.e. the same premise of this thread more-or-less, hence why I like it
on small flips like this, which i call momentum flips (quick, small turns) i'll use smaller position size or take a smaller first exit scale and try to let it ride much longer. never know where the momentum ends, and on what timeframe.

I haven't seem to come across the post that you mentioned ...about flipping trend, could you elaborate on it.

first line has a lot of understanding to it. You simply have to do a lot of hindsight testing with how to correctly draw s/r points and learn develop a plan on how to react to them.
It doesn't really differ, per se. I guess what I was thinking was the entry method's that people use throughout are different. Personally I believe in entering at the castle and not the battleground
- i.e. pivots compared to the p.a. between, and waiting for a confirmation entry. Anyways...identify key s/r, formulate your entry method, and execute with discipline. The entry method doesn't have to be complicated like some super special candlestick pattern, ma cross, the ratio of buddha's belly divided by shiva's arm lengths, etc...(possibly sold in the marketplace section); Try to think in terms of Supply and Demand when looking at how price reacts to key areas, and then go from there.It may seem like I am talking broadly, but I am not. Keep it relatively simple and look at the things I mentioned. My example today was just reacting to price around pivots, not a set strategy.

well, this is how I played that break-down, didn't catch the whole move, but was still quite profitable. Don't know if you guys can make sense of my chart. If it is too complicated just tell me then I try to make it clearer.
First chart is my trading chart (h1), and second chart is the m15 chart (this is just to make it easier for you guys to identify my entries).
1st arrow: entry short, took 50% profit at support, let the rest run.
2nd arrow: entry long, got stopped out later
then you might ask yourself why I didn't enter again at the...
and thankyou for explaning with chart ...that was certainly helpful.As a full time trader how many hours would you endup spending in your trading laboratory.? What sort of daily routine you are following?
