FED BALANCE SHEET Total Fed Reserve Bank credit fell $1.240 bln to $2.310 trln on a weekly avg basis in the May 12 week but was up $10.246 bln to $2.318 trln w/w, principally due to CB liquidity swaps. Security holdings rose $217 mln to $2.042 trln wkly avg and were up $982 mln to $2.043 trln w/w. Holdings of Treasuries rose $48 mln to $777 bln. Holdings of agencies were down $113 mln to $168 bln, while MBS holdings were up $282 mln to $1.098 trln weekly avg. Also, MBS rose $940 mln to $1.098 trln w/w. "Other Loans" fell $912 mln to $77.186 bln and were down $1.113 bln to $76.636 bln w/w. Primary credit loans fell $197 mln to $5.150 bln wkly avg and were down $71 mln to $5.136 bln w/w as they continue to decline in response to the higher discount rate. Credit to AIG fell $254 mln to $26.808 bln wkly avg. The TALF facility fell $457 mln to $44.699 bln. The Commercial Paper Funding facility fell $2.794 bln to only $2 mln wkly avg and on Wed. Central bank liquidity swaps rose $1.315 bln wkly avg to $1.315 bln and were up $9.205 bln w/w to $9.205 bln.

Ahead of today's Eurogroup meeting to discuss the precarious Greek/EMU deficit situation, GREEK PM PAPANDREOU has been talking in the press, and sounding not wholly convinced about the severe fiscal consolidation programme that his Govt has committed to implement in exchange for the bail-out. He concedes that the programme will only be sustainable if supported by investment and growth stimulus, but he reiterates that the plan can be implemented, while pledging to protect the poorest citizens. He also states that he has contacted German Chanc Merkel, French Pres Sarkozy and US Pres Obama about the possibility of CDS market closure (one of the main instruments criticised by officials for helping to exacerbate the whole debt, default, contagion spiral). Meanwhile in the debt markets, the 10 YR GGB/BUND YIELD SPREAD is hovering around 520 bp, as Bunds lose more of their early safe-haven bid.

Market is so choppy, and still waiting for some setups, maybe on Cable or Aussie

Having embarked on a period of catch-up losses through Fri-Mon, CABLE remains severely hampered as local considerations boost the bearish outlook. Concerns over the ability for the new UK administration to confront the UK's deficit woes remain a key bearish factor behind sentiment, with fears increasing that the emergency budget due to be released on June 22 may fail to address the huge debt pile. Keeping the pair free from further losses so far this morning in Europe has been the presence of Russian name demand around the 1.4430-40 zone, propelling trade closer to 1.4500 and the 1.4498-1.4510 resistance zone. Nervous trade will continue ahead of the key inflation data due at 8.30gmt. CPI is expected to remain elevated to prompt another letter from the BoE to new Chancellor George Osborne. We expect a 0.4% m/m rise compared to 0.6% in Mar, to push the y/y rate to 3.6% from 3.4%.
