that might make a good case study..... ask a hundred traders what is the number 1 rule......
sometimes when i place the perfect short and the market seems to differ, rather than adding a new short to average down i'll place trailing sellstops..... let them trail some ma or similar...... once/if the market turns they fill at a better price ..... untill that point they have no negative drawdown....
it clears my mind, which is my number 1 rule.....h

unfortunately i'm a poor manual trader, truth be known perhaps the worst..... and my view of the "rythem of the market" is seldom correct.... often suffering from "egocentric blindness"....

fortunately i can code..... so ea's are heavily employed and handle all decisions..... while they are not a cure-all, they can be a crutch for that weakest link, ie, me......h

hey kourtney.... metatrader..... ea's are trailing/modifying the entry's..... this can be done above or below the current price.... and works best when the smaller temporary trend is against the larger trend.....
they can be made to trail moving averages or most any indicator, such as macd, rsi , stoch, zigzag and so on.....
you just want the temporary/pullback trend to fall into your trailing orders as the larger trend resumes..... h
to trade and code, keep both simple... no call to impress....h
