Hey guys, I'm new to this thread and have been trying to read through every page so I can catch up. I'm currently running the TCF v2 EA, on four different pairs, but it has not made a trade in the last 2 days. On the chart it says that 'long trades are not allowed' and 'short trades are not allowed.' I've made sure that all the EA settings in MT4 are ok. Is anyone else having this problem?

Reason being...

Most volatility, movement or potential Yen devaluing will occur outside of London market session i.e. Asia session so it makes sense to set the OB higher and OS lower.

Yes, I am seeing the same thing on my chart.

I don't know if the cause of this issue has already been covered in the thread. I have not had time to search the thread to look.

So they have come up with a rescue package for Greece but the markets dont think it is credible.

Firstly my sincerest thankyou to Steve, Scooby and others here who have selflessly shared so much with the rest of us.

Just some thoughts on the Broker vs retail trader issue...it requires naivite of outlandish proportions to assume that we as MT-based retail traders are going to enjoy the same level of service as the traditional big players in the market. To a great extent we are the agents of our oun demise. The more successfull we become at extracting any kind of return the more aggressively the brokers will siphon off their "cut". It is not that they wish to get rid of the small-fry, on the contrary, we provide them with an income stream which is probably obscenely profitable for them. However it seems they have apparently come to the conclusion that some of the small-fry, due to large numbers (Japanese Housewives), more sophisticated technologies, EA's and developing techniques (Steve/Scooby et al) are posing a potential threat to a lucrative business model. Hence we can expect to see more regulation and barriers erected "for the good of the People", of course! eg. like that of Alpari-UK, while, they welcome MT4 on a mini account, they also restrict it to a 2-lot maximum at any time! Naturally, for our own good! Ive attached a letter from the Alpari, CEO descibing the sanitized version of what goes on behind the scenes. For what it's worth.

Just a final word since this thread is not "broker discussion". As Scooby constantly reminds us small accounts are doomed to stay with bucket shops. So if your risk capital for a trading account is more than $20K, then you should go with reputable banks (eg. DBFX, Barclays, Citi, etc).

Less than $20K and you know the choices. Before people writing saying DBFX minimum is $5k or Barclays is £5k or citi is $10k, why I am saying $20K. It is because, DBFX accounts less than $20k is handled by FXCM (re: Scooby post), Barclays minimum trade is 0.5 lots (or $50k) and Citi only allows 50:1 leverage. So for effective money management you need minimum $20K.

So lets get on with other issues and bear in mind with brokers it is the case of "BUYER BE AWARE".

yes, it's always saying "not allowed" but trades are taken, so problem on screen only.

A lot of discussion recently seems to paint a very pessimistic picture for those who may be trying to develop a, dare I say it, career in retail trading, or trying to establish a revenue stream from which to live.

However, if this were the case I suppose we should shut up shop now. Unless of course we are dealing in micro accounts for the rest of our lives and therefore posing a threat to no broker in particular. I wonder what the future holds? Is it the case that if/when you start to make decent money in this game you have to move from retail to something else? Forgive my ignorance here of the something else.

In your opinion is there a realistic path to success in forex via the retail route?

About Brokers discution...
For some of you that trade manually, I recommand DUKACOPY swiss.
Few years ago when I traded manually, I worked with them and they are a very good liquidity provider. Almost No requotes, No slippage, No delay , no stop hunting etc...
I meet them in Geneva and saw that they really route all the orders to their liquidity providers (DB, City, RBS, UBS, Lava, etc....). When I trade manually I only use them. So comfortable, even with 5 or 10 mil trades...
Spreads are tight, we have to pay a commision (18$/mil).
I must say I am more than happy to pay a commission for such execution.
It's by far the best company I have worked with.
This company is not for small players, lot =1 million, minimum is 0.25 lot (0.25 mil) and minimum account is €50.000 (or usd), although I hear that now they accept 0.1 lot (0.1 mil) and smaller accounts.
Unfortunally we can't use MT4 with them. There is a british guy that developped a gateway between Mt4 and Duka, I tested it and unfortunaly that's doesn't work very good.
But for manual trading it's a very good company.
(if you have some doubts, I have no interest with this company and will never have, it's just my 2 cents of experience)

dukascopy does indeed now have mt4 (just recently) and lower minimums. Worth another look probably.
