Morning all, wassup?

Super hot weekend here, got myself a nice tan and hours in the pool to dodge the heat.

Watched the super bowl yesterday, but it was too late here. By half time I was fully asleep. Today I saw I missed the best part.

Viva NO Saints, I was kinda supporting then mostly due to Katrina than anything else. I don't follow football here. Only the SBs, if such.

Here comes a new week...

Was watching a nice show here called Manhattan Connection, which among other things, talks about the world's economics.

Now I got it what's going on in Europe. Greece is going under, as well as Portugal, Spain, Italy and Ireland.

The problem is: If Europe helps them, Europe as a whole will go under. If they don't, a legion of Greeks and Spaniards and Portugueses will check in in Frankfurt, London and Paris. So what do they do?

As they don't say, people around the world go scared out of they pants on the likelihood of the coutries go bankrupt and drag the crap out of Europe with them.

The best way for each of those countries to get out of the swamp would be currency devaluation. But as they are under the Euro, they can't do that.

Gotta tellya: It ain't a kinda situation one wants to be on a Monday morning.

In time: no coincidence the troubled countries are now under the acronym "PIIGS" (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain)

that's the price Europe will have to pay for trying to build a super state to be bigger than the USA - quick add another country to our state that realy can't afford to join "no one will notice"

China is the new superstate and holds $1,222 Trillion. Watch what happens to the Dollar when they begin to offload at discount at these current price levels.

Just a thought.

Oh, and even though I live in the UK, I fully agree, we are in bad shape.

USA is in great shape and holds the largest reserves, totalling 8,150 tonnes.

Shit, hold on, I hear China wishes to increase it's holdings to 8000-10000 tonnes over the next 3-5 years. Didn't they also buy another chunk (ie 400 tonnes - ish) from the IMF last week?

What bothers me the most, is the reaction at the Brazilian Stock Market. Ok, big movers are the exporters (minners and oil).

But the whole goddamned market is falling hard for days. Set aside those companies, the rest of the stock market is populated by domestic market-driven businesses.

Last week Brazilian Central Bank showed concern on how HOT our ecomony is right now, hinting rate hikes to come. Not tomorrow, not the day after, but if necessary along the way.

Which means, domestic marketplace is burning. And traders, I don't know, like MONKEYS trying to feel in Wall Street, read The Wall Street Journal and watch International Bloomberg just to dump stocks like madmen...

Go figure...

Sounds about right. Mind you, panic over here provided some lovely discount stocks last week, was almost "buy one, get one free" lol. A few I know managed to grab a sizeable chunk to add to portfolios. Meanwhile, everyone still thinks we collapse from here, but the real truth is we rise hard and the fall last week will be seen as a correction. Just when everyone gets Long again, THEN we drop, as usual lol.

How could there truly be a Euro Union without the British ?

since the very beginning 11 - 12 years ago ...........

why didnt the British join the Euro in its efforts
to a make one Euro Currency ?

European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet is cutting short a trip to Australia to attend a special European Union summit, prompting market speculation initiatives are in the works to help resolve Greece's debt problems.

EU heads of state are due to meet on Thursday in Brussels for a special summit on the economy under pressure to restore confidence among investors worried that rising debt in Greece, Portugal and other weaker states in the euro zone could undermine a global recovery.
