the Feds more than likely will not raise the rate simply for the fact that its the 4th quarter..raising the rate will diminsh corporate profits..

Interest rate unchanged!

Statment:
" ... The Committee will maintain the target range for the federal funds rate at 0 to 1/4 percent and continues to anticipate that economic conditions, including low rates of resource utilization, subdued inflation trends, and stable inflation expectations, are likely to warrant exceptionally low levels of the federal funds rate for an extended period."

And AUD is droping ?!?

When one has nothing else to do other than that - hi is toast man... I know from my own experience ...
It's been like half an hour and still refuses to pick up. C'mon aussie. Push baby, push!!!

Did I mention I was cought long from ,927 20$/pip. I was away and forgot that I had couple of buy orders pending for like a month. Now i'm iin red too deep to just call it quits. Man

Lenart...thats is the worst....i dropped my long and re entered for a short...I can relate to the $20 a pip, I stopped doing pending orders for that reason...if I am on the charts I am on the charts...downside is all the activity happens from 5pm to 8:30 am US time
I looked at the 8 hour and it is showing the AUD is on a down turn...my thoughts are if i dump this account....I will open another with a much greater knowledge base

I got short at .9064 and deliberating over whether to take profits.

Thoughts on short - medium term direction?

Medium term I think she might keep going sideways for a bit, consolidating until it decides to break down (could take a while... it certainly looks like it no longer wants to go higher on longer term charts. For it go lower though, the USD would have to strengthen quite a bit, and at the moment I don't know if it has that capacity, so I say... SIDEWAYS!! XP though on smaller time frames, that's still plenty of opportunity.

You didn't put any stops coinciding with your buy orders? o-o!!

My 2 cents; Support is just below at 8975, IMHO, I'm looking for a blip up to 9040 over next 3 hrs or so provided support holds. I'm more a chartist but w/AUD % rates factoring highest in G8, and a good economy, I would suspect that would underpin the AUD somewhat vs. other currencies. Plus gold seems to be lifting up some as well which may support the AUD.

Pivot: 0.9055

Preference: Short positions below 0.9055 with targets @ 0.8955 & 0.8915 in extension.

Alternative scenario: Above 0.9055 look for further upside with 0.9105 & 0.9135 as targets.

The RSI is mixed with a bearish bias.

HI All,
Just logged in to see what can be done. From all the news last night and the way Gold has picked up, my bet would be north for a bit. But looking at my charts and the waves, I cant see it getting passed 9020, tops turnaround of 9037 even if it did. Given we are in the middle of the range I would suggest long position with a hedge and a tight SL. In general, I think the market will be mostly sideways.

Anyone with me there?

22:12 AUD/USD: Underperforms But Holds Above Key Support Sydney, December 17: There was a bit of whippy price action in all of the USD pairings during the US session, but as we start the Asian session there is little change in most of the currency relationships - with the US dollar index ending the day just 0.10% lower. The USD put on an impressive display considering that neither the US CPI nor the FOMC statement suggested that Fed will have to start hiking ahead of schedule.
The AUD was the worst performing currency on the day after failing to recover from the damage done in Asia yesterday following the weaker than expected Aus GDP and "dovish" comments from RBA Deputy Governor Battellino. The AUD fell 0.5% against the USD and EUR; 0.4% against the NZD and 0.3% against the JPY on an open/close basis. The losses may have been greater if it wasn"t for a decent rise in commodity prices and a fall in the VIX index below 21.
The AUD/USD fell to 0.8956 at one stage - just ahead of the November 27 trend low at 0.8946. The pullback above 0.9000 validates this level as key short-term support. Hourly resistance is found just ahead of 0.9025 and a break above that level would ease the downward pressure.

I still think we see some upside action in euro and aud over the next few sessions. holding euro longs at 1.4540 still and aud longs from 8965 now.

I am still LONG in Gold (from Monday on) and hoped for AUD to follow it a bit.
Hada pending order at 0.8950 as I expected some bounce back up from there on.. But it wasn't hit.
Now around the 0.90 - area it looks pretty unclear to me..
I think a small Long with tight SL could be a good thing. (As it'S bedtime for me now I will see tomorrow morning where it went... which is a good thing sometimes... not always following these strange moves all the time ...

Yeah, as I said before, I think sideways overall for a while. Still, you'll get the movements in between to use, but for me I might wait until after christmas for this pair. Depending. XP

I wouldn't say for no reason. A couple of reports have come out saying a few banks have sold off shares, gaining back billions to lend out again and help the economy stabilize. I don't think it's a terribly strong signal, but it may help a few people glean a bit of information into why it is strengthening across the board.
