EJ looks the only valid setup for now as GU is saying long on slopes but a way off from breaking the box and it pierced on the short side, so the slopes did it job to avoid a false breakout as GU is currently retracing back up. EU is conflicting at the moment.

sellstop and buystop will be placed at 15:00GMT, on EA is 17:00 because my time is GMT+2, and the broker chart is same as my time (Demo FXPro)

Well the Michigan news out at 14.55 GMT send EJ low enough to trigger an entry for the short then it slowly just climbed all the way back up to hit the SL. Luckily, GU wasn't a trade as that also hit full SL, the slopes keeping us out of a nasty trade.

I'll update totals over the weekend but November is still looking positive!

Where does the EA get itst time from? From brooker time or from local computer time?

EA reads broker time
EA to be used on H1 Frame in order to read 7 bars (hours) back.

Thanks for all your input to this thread. I mainly trade GBP USD and I have looked back over the period from 2 October to 13 November and the results seem a lot better for this pair using the following parameters:

11.00am - 13.00pm Box method

Box period: 11.00am to 13.00pm GMT. No trades taken before 13.00pm. If the price is moving strongly at 13.00pm wait for a clear high or low to form (based upon a 1 min chart) and enter on the break of this by 1 pip

Time limit: No trades taken after 15.00pm

Slope direction: using 100, 3, 0 and 50, 3, 0 from 30min chart. Providing both lines match at the time there is a break through the box in that direction take trade. If the there is a change in colour on the breakout bar use the colour that it is changing to

Entry: 1 pip above high or low of box (no use of a buffer)

Breakeven: Move after 33 pips

Stop: 30 pips + spread

Target: 40 pips

Results:

12 winners

14 no trade

2 fail

0 breakeven

Total pips (allowing for spreads and losses) = 378

I would be interested in your thoughts and do appreciate that just over a month does not give an accurate reflection of consistence over an extended period

Or maybe both strategies could be combined. By also entering a second position after 2.30pm GMT based upon the following criteria

12.00pm - 14.30pm Box method

Box period: 12.00am to 14.30pm GMT. No trades taken before 13.00pm. If the price is moving strongly at 14.30pm move breakout point to next clear high or low using a 1 min chart

Time limit: No trades taken after 17.30pm

Slope direction: using 100, 3, 0 and 50, 3, 0 from 30min chart. Providing both lines match at the time there is a break through the box in that direction take trade. If the there is a change in colour on the breakout bar use the colour that it is changing to

Entry: 13 pips above high or low of box (you do need a buffer for this box method)

Breakeven: Move after 30 pips

Stop: 19 pips + spread

Target: 60 pips

Results:

5 winners

19 no trade

2 fail

2 breakeven

Total pips (allowing for spreads and losses) = 241

Additional pips

Also if you have an open trade which has not reached it target by the time that the 14.30pm box trade is triggered (assuming that they are in the same direction) add the difference between the 13.00pm and 14.30pm entry points onto the profit target for your 13.00pm trade

This would have given an additional 56 pips on 2 trades that met this criteria

Overall result 675 pips or 112 pips per week

Did you take time change Nov.1 into consideration, or did you just leave time parameters at 11/13 GMT? In Oct. New York was opening at 12:00 GMT. In Nov. New York returned to EST and resumed opening at 13:00 GMT.

Im just going to try something new based on this strategy.

Im going to trade in such a way where i expect every monday to be a winner.

If I win on monday, I stop trading.

If the strategy fails on monday, I will trade 2 lots on tuesday and expect the strategy to fail. So instead of using the lines as a breakout line, I use them as reversal lines with my TP on the opposite line.

If strategy did fail on Tuesday (which means, I would have profited) I stop trade for the week.

If strategy works on Tuesday (which means, price did not hit the opposite line) I would trade again on wednesday expecting the strategy to work with 4 lots.

If I win on Wednesday, I stop trade for the week. If I lose on Wednesday, I also stop trade for the week.

Reason why i came up with this is because, for the past 12 weeks, this seems to be profitable. Gonna jump in live tomorrow. Lets see how it goes.

I also do not risk more then 2% on a week. So I got like USD23,500 in my acc bal. 2% would be USD470 per week. I divide this by 7 (1 lot monday/2lots tuesday/ 4 lots wednesday) and divide this again by the pip range to determine how much per pip i wanna trade on Monday. So I feel pretty safe with this strategy.

Just throwing out ideas here...should i record my trade results here or should i start a new thread?

Hi there,

I did not adjust for this because it is difficult to calculate the effect given that the European session is still in full flow at that time. FYI there were 3 winners + 1 breakeven during for the 11 - 13 session and 1 winner + 1 breakeven for the 12 - 14.30 session during this week. I am not sure that it would make much difference

Wow, that is pretty crazy!

Trying to chase losses is a massive no no in my book and adjusting lot sizes to recover losses just doesn't float for me.

Tuesday has zero reflection on Monday's result. Each day is a new event. You could have 5 losses in a row and the sixth would still have zero bearing on the previous 5 results, it's important to remember that.

Good luck with your testing but it certainly isn't a strategy I'd recommend. Trading the basic breakout with 3% risk per trade would be far more profitable imo.

Hi guys,

sorry for all the newb questions but i have put the .ex4 file into the experts folder in metatrader but when i open metatrader, the slope indicator is greyed out for some reason. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It means you can run the program as a tool on your platform but you don't have access to its software/coding. Some coders like to keep their work private, so they lock it out like this.

Thanks for update the EA,

-Could you please share with us the basic settings? (like MA_TF, MA_Period, orderExpiretime, etc).
I've trying to backtested and after 1st trade, an ERROR 131 appears in testing journal and no more trades are placed... (I use FXCM UK plattform as broker), can you please help?

I'm really appreciate your contribution to this thread.

It needs to go into the indicators folder, not just the experts folder. Experts is for EA's. The slope is an indicator. Just cut it and paste it into the indicator folder whilst in experts and you're done.

Anthony, I have setup using the EA Gansta, one thing I notice is when it enters an order lets say a buy it also open a sell order as well, I see the initial order ( buy ) has a SL assign but I do not see a SL on the 2nd order, see attached image
