I would go back as far as possible testing with your rules very strictly and see if it is something you would be comfortable to go live with (for the long term).

I only trade 3 pairs namely, GBP USD, USD CAD and EUR JPY and whilst I appreciate that my analysis relates to the morning session and therefore should really be on the other thread. The other thread is relatively inactive and you seemed to be doing a lot of analysis and testing on this thread. I have found from experience of trading these pairs that they are active at the end of the Asian session and beginning of the European. Even the Loonie. Therefore as you are already doing analysis on the afternoon breakout box method I thought I would see whether the logic could be applied to the morning and what the results would be. I appreciate that I have only gone back to the beginning of October as it takes some time going through a 2 min chart to see the real time price action. I posted my results for Cable yesterday

Thanks Anthony. I have trades set up at the moment so will not get around to using the EA untill later provided it gets put up. While you are around may I ask you if it has the options to add a stop loss and enter trades in minutes aswell as hours (E.g. 14:30 instead of 14:00 or 15:00)? Can a buffer be set to enter x amount of pips from the Breakout line? This could save hours upon hours of backtesting manually although this would probably still have to be done to confirm the EA's entries.

I am aware of the correlation between the pairs, although one pair having a breakout does not mean a correlated pair will also. So therefore I would trade each pair by the same rules.

I think its great that you are contributing to this thread and I have followed your results. Im pleasantly suprised at the success of the UCAD breaking out during the London Morning Session and will be sure to include it in my next back tests of the GBP London Morning Breakout Session. Thanks for your kind words and thanks you for all the effort you are putting into your testing. I am going to do EUR / JPY next and may see if I can go back into September. It takes an age scrolling back on 2 min charts to see what the pricing did in real time so that you can get the best criteria for setting the stop level and the level at which you should move your stop to breakeven. Thanks again

it's not a god day for the strategy.
Eur/usd:I put a buy order at 1.4903. the slopes seem to change direction when the price breaks the box so I enter: tp-15

Usd/chf: same doubt like eur/usd but in that case i don't put the short order.0

Eur/jpy: sl -15 slope was clear

Usd/jpy: sl -15

gbp/usd: short pending order

tot.= -45 pips

question about eur/usd
In this case, when the price break the box and in the 1h graph the slope semms to change direction but the candle it's not close, what do you suggest?

Could you please elaborate on the following fields:

#1 One Trade Open Bar
#2 Max Dev ReOpen
#3 Trailing Stop Fields: Target Increment, Stop Increment, Initial Jump
#4 MA timframe default setting is 0. (Does this mean that the MA applies to whichever timeframe you run the EA on?)

EU: The hour slopes were always down and the sell trade based on the low of the m30 box did not get triggered.

EJ, UJ, AUSD all triggered and got stopped out.

So that is a loss today of 45pips.
So this week total is 180(mon to thurs)-45(today)= +135.

I said many times not every day will be a winning day. Not every week will be a winning week. Even every month may not be a winning one. What is important is that you stick to a strategy and your opted Money Management and in the long term you are profitable. This is why alot of traders (90%+) fail, because they do not have the discipline and patience trading requires. I hope people do not throw this system away because of a losing day. As you can see from my results, this was a profitable week. As long as your account can handle losing days (and it should if your risk is correct) then we will be profitable in the long run.

Don' worry, I know that this strategy is very good. Only I'm learning to trade the strategy with the filter slope, so today for me it was a good day to learn. I make a mistake whit a slope in the eur/usd. it is so.
But I/m very hapyy for the structure of the strategy and i'm totally agree that the mm is the most important thing as we saw in the backtested.

My aud/usd was a breakeven(more or less a few pips) after the 30pips trailstop was hit...with Oanda enter @ .9171 High @.9198 / trailstop(30 pips) hit @ 91.67.

Hi Gangsta 1,

I have now completed my backtesting EUR / JPY albeit using a different box period from you and here are the results:

Please note that I have only gone back as far as October 2nd so it does not necessarily provide a completely representative sample;

Rules:

a) Use a box between 4.00am and 6.30am GMT (an early start works best with this one)

b) I am fortunate to have some software which identifies the peaks and troughs of the price swings so if a price low or high was formed shortly after 6.30am my entry would be based upon a move above or below this swing by 1 pip

c) Enter 1 pip above or below prior high or low providing it is in the direction of the Slope Direction Slow Line indicator unless the lines are about to cross over using the 1 hr chart

d) Set stop at 15 + spread away from entry point (any less than this and 3 of the winners would be stopped out)

e) Move stop to break even when it has moved 38 pips from entry

f) Exit at 120 pips from entry (yes that is right 120 pips)

Results:

10 Losses giving a loss of 10 positions

1 Stopped out at Breakeven

5 Winners giving a return of 120pips divided by 18pips (stop + spread) = 6.67 per position

9 No trade (either does not move out of box or moves out of box in opposite direction to Sloping Direction Indicator). I have included ones where it moves out of the box initially in the opposit direction from the Sloping trend and then moves out the other side of the box

Return excluding breakeven trades 33.35 - 10 = 23.35 (average return including breakeven trades 1.46 per position)

It just goes to show that it is not about the winning percentage. However the results for September may prove to be very different and it is difficult to make predictions based upon such a small sample

attached EA as you asked
but i still prefer to use lowest price or highest price box as stoploss.
anyhow you can backtest.
and i will modify the first EA that i posted before with better parameters, and based on Fibonacci factors for taking profit, i mean not fixed profit, changeable according to highest and lowest of breakout box.
Hope tomorrow will post the modified EA, and post charts of testing.

Thanks for the Ea, it seems to set the buy and stop orders correctly but I have a few issues with it..

I cannot seem to get the Stop Loss or Break Even functions to work. Whenever I add a number in the field of Stop Loss, the stop loss is still the other side of the box. Whenever I enter a value into breakeven, the trades all close at 0.00 profit immediatly. Can you please explain how to use these fields correctly? Is there any chance we could get a buffer option added?

Hmmm... I set my order at 15pips above the high and set a 30 pip trail stop thinking that I was following your suggestion of setting your stop at be after 30+....maybe I misunderstood your point. Let me read it again...
