EUR/USD extends rally; notable buyer seen

EUR/USD has extended it’s rally, presently at 1.4935. Sources note that an Asian central bank has been a good buyer of the pairing this morning, reserve diversification alive and well.

European stocks are rallying nicely and EUR/GBP keeps moving higher, presently at .9215. Both supporting EUR/USD. Gold and oil firmer as well.

Resistances 1.4950/55 and 1.4969.

EUR/USD holding up awright; orders seen both sides of market

EUR/USD sits at 1.4935, holding up well. Sources now note some sell orders lined up at 1.4950. Then obviously more sell orders at 1.4970 up through to 1.5000 barrier option interest.

Some buy stops noted just north of 1.4969 resistance. Now buy orders seen gathering down at 1.4900/10 area. Pick the bones outta that little lot.

It’s a slow-go so far

Markets are in consolidation mode so far Monday morning as EUR/USD trades quietly in the mid-1.4920s. Traders remain reluctant to take on the 1.5000 area without a fresh dollar-negative catalyst, mindful of heavy options protection ahead of exotic triggers up there. By the same token, they are in no rush to sell given buying from an Asian regional central bank earlier in the session.

It was interesting to note that China was pretty critical of the euro in today’s People’s Daily article just as EU officials prepare to make a pilgrimage to Beijing to appeal to the PRC to loosen its grip on the USD peg which has held the Yuan steady around the 6.83 level for the last 15 months or more.

1.4870 is support on pullbacks near-term for EUR/USD while 1.4955/70 is resistance.

Oct. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Stocks rose from Shanghai to London and the currencies of commodity producers strengthened as investors sought higher returns amid improving corporate earnings.

All the news, about pending shorts at that lvl, that if all people think the same, almost everyone by now should have pending shorts at 1.5 that's my opinion. but if big boys want to take out our money, they will push it to 1.5022

Bernanke mentions dollar, obliquely

Beranke says the Fed’s exit strategy is critically important to maintaining confidence in the US economy an the currency. He says he sees more urgency among G20countries to address imbalances now and that greater exchange rate flexibility would help address Asian asset bubble concerns.

The US financial regulatory system was overwhelmed by capital inflows ahead of the crash and did not handle them well. (A master of understatement, Bernanke is…)

EUR/US has pulled back to the 1.4940s from 1.4965 on the comments.

s&p 500 is almost 1100 !!! i am shivering with excitement yikes!

Oct. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Obama administration advisers said U.S. banks bailed out with taxpayer funds have responsibility to support the president’s effort to overhaul the rules for Wall Street and avoid future financial crises.

White House officials say they are frustrated that major financial firms are fighting President Barack Obama on the regulatory overhaul after taxpayer bailouts helped firms restore profits and near-record compensation for executives.
