hey hazelj.... is it freezing just that chart or the whole platform....

check the cpu for the terminal's usage..... if your running more than platform look for the one with the highest reading.....h
to trade and code, keep both simple... no call to impress....h

Both sound like decent Ideas but would take longer than I have right now. try the Indicator I posted above. It is short , sweet and to the point.

That bit (the clock) was just a bit of fun, an easy way to see the update is working. I originally used this code in some indicators and EA's.

Whats a few hz between freinds? lol Actually, My pc is pretty beefy and I have never had any trouble with memory or speed (even running multiple MT4 instances).

I just looked and I do have pm on. I reset it just in case something was up.

Scamno, the platform does not freeze, just the M2 chart. it's installed on a dedicated server so there's no way everything could freeze! I made sure I had too much power lol 2x2.1 Ghz proccessor and 4 gb ram

well me too... dont care much now...bought a server for testing and running some 20 mt4 simultaneously

as regarding PM..something is still up with your settings!

An other (yes...) rewrite of the Renko script. This one can't be loaded as a script at all but MUST be loaded as an indicator (so, should be placed in the indicator folder). The point is that it consumes mush less cpu power this way & that you can feed more then one offline (renko) chart from the same M1 chart.

Been testing it alot today & last friday, seems to work like it should. Still, I think that v1.6/v1.6a should be considred the most stable version for now.

For the more exprimental minded, -give it a try.

I wrote the attached a few weeks ago - seems to work okay but has a problem when a single M1 bar travels more than 2 Renko blocks - the last new block is shown and the intermediate one is skipped. I'm not sure how to solve this - it could be very complicated with small Renko blocks.

Hi LV,

RE: the new v2 renko - is there a way to make the open time of the renko blocks the actual open time instead of the close time? I could look into this but hesitate to start modifying your code (again)

is it possible to have a option to show the wick of every candle in the offlinechart? i looked into the code and think for an upcandle you have to put the lowest low between previous candle and current candle and vice versa for downcandle. i tried it but get no success. could you please do it for me. i think this are very important information a candle could give.

I know I'm not EllisEdi, but since I wrote RencoLiveChart.mq4 I vill try to answer anyway (I hope EllisEdi don't mind).

I'm just not going to do the work of adding wicks in my script (I'm just not interested in feauters that I don't use my self, and I don't like wicks on my renko blocks). (This have been asked before, so don't take it the wrong way if it sounds harsh.)

EllisEdi wrote the orginal renko script in this thread (renko_live_scr.mq4) (thank you for the inspiration EllisEdi, and for maintaning this thread), that he later removed. But he have as far as I know not shown any interest in adding it to his script when people have asked about wicks before in this thread.

So the short story is that I don't think wicks is going to happen. Sorry.

I am not trying to sound harsh but, I agree with LastViking. I really do not have the time to add features to this code. I originally wrote a quick and dirty script to produce Renko Bricks for a friend and thought to share it here as kind of a payback to the community ( I am an avid lurker).

LastViking wrote his own version, which was cleaner and more efficient than mine and he added Volume ( a feature he wanted). He has since then modified the code to include a "live"bar formation and changed the script into an indicator. With help from LouG and others, I believe this is code is fully functional and feature complete.

Of course, one of the benefits of having the source code (mq4 file) is that you could make the changes yourself or ask someone else to help you. There are several people who have threads in the programming section who can help.

Another option is the retail renko script ( it can be found with a Google search).

I may have started this thread, but your code makes this thread shine.
Since you published your code, All I have tried to do is explain Renko Bricks a bit and, give credit where credit is due (you and LouG). You have already spent more time on this than I ever could and done a terrific job.

(first time I used the word "terrific" since the 80's )

Guys from where we can get the back data of 1 min bars for last 5-6 months for mt4 platform.As mt4(ibfx) has only 2 month inbuilt data can we download more from anywhere.

Also
using renko bars on 1 min bars is different from using it on 5 min bars why so as renko uses price not time frame then how the difference s created.

You can also get back M1 data from your broker (or at least I can). Bring up a M1 chart, press the home key to get to the earliest data you currently have and press and hold the left arrow key. You should get back data added to the history file for M1. Before you try this, be sure the "bars in chart" variable in Options/Charts is set to a VERY big number - M1 history adds 1440 bars per day to your file - that's about 180K bars for 6 months.

Renko Bricks should be created with tick data, but since Mt4 does not record historical tick data, just 1 minute candles, a compromise has to be taken.

The indicator actually uses the bars on the chart in which it is placed. Call this a "Design Feature". It allows you to place it on a 1 minute chart and see the most accurate it can get, or try others to see what happens.
