Hello. I am a new trader. Im from Argentina. Thank you for teaching me about this indicator. can you tell me in which pairs does it work best? I have been trying it for a while with different pair but I want to reduce it to just a few. can you advise me on that?

The jpy crosses but it works great on all pairs-you could trade anything with ichimoku.

There could be a neutral/strong LONG signal waiting for TS/KS cross on M5.
But I see a great Resistence Navy waiting for the price at 1.11 defending the side of KUMO Daily.
So be careful, better for some pips

Hi Astracan, sorry for my delay in answer your question.

I don't wanna be so technical and I'm try to explain this easy. As you know the Ts / Ks cross is the most traditional strategy using Ichimoku, but to evaluate how strong or valid is this cross/signal we need to see 3 different points, the first one is see where the cross happens in relationship with the Kumo, for a Long signal if it's above is a Strong signal; if it's within the kumo is a neutral signal or if it's below is a weak signal (opposite for Short Signals).

The second point that we need to consider is the position of the Chinkou at the cross moment, you know, for a long signal you need that the Ch will be above the price, otherwise the signal will be very weak or risky.

The last point to consider is the Depth & sentiment of the Kumo... the depth show us the volatility of the pair in these moment, you know... with a thicker kumo we've a higher volatility and this is better to trade. The Sentiment of the cloud it's easy to see... Senkou span A is above Senkou Span B the sentiment is bullish (opposite to bearish).

It's no so easy because when you take a look of one picture you never can forgot to take a look on the higher TF pictures.

Please let me tell you my point of view about this pair (USDCAD). As you said the resistance in 1.110 it's very strong, and also if you take a look on the 1Hr. TF the cloud sentiment it's bearish. The picture is NOT clear, Monthly, Weekly and daily is bearish... not strong but the price is under kumo... trying to validate the resistance at 1.11... In lower TF you have the price above the kumo... I don't know but for me is not clear to put my money in.

Hi Juno,

Glad you have found us!

We specifically target E/Y, G/Y, U/CAD G/U, E/U, A/J, CAD/Y U/CHF and a couple of others but my memory is fried from the crazy movements today so I am sure I am forgetting some.

The ichimoku system as you are no doubt aware was originally developed to trade Yen crosses in Japan so many argue that it works best on yen linked instruments. Vic who started this thread found over time that E/Y offers the best trading range with slightly reduced volatility and craziness that the G/Y, A/Y and Cad/Y can have.

You are probably best off taking the ichimoku system and following the E/Y closely until you feel confident and that you have the hang of things. You will also find regular analysis provided here such as weekly analysis, trade idea reports and actual live trades that our team of analysts make throughout the day.

It is really worth your time checking out at least the first 10 pages of this thread to understand in good detail the basis for what we are doing and then stick around and get into it with us.

Send me a personal message if you have any further questions because there is so much ongoing discussion here all the time that you will likely get lost amongst the postings.

Question for you guys, I'm wanting to understand the cloud more. In the screenshot the areas with the stars. Very thin clouds, what does this really mean in relation to the other charts?

Also, you see how the cloud goes way off into right field? How does this affect how I see the data (if at all) ?

Cloud thickness shows volatility along with support and resistance. The cloud in front is future prediction or the crystal ball of ichi.

Thanks! So in the particular example that I provided, by analyzing all of the timeframe info together, how would the thinness of the 5 min cloud affect your decision to enter a short trade if price breaks below the crowd and ts crosses ks?

What do you mean by "the cloud in front"?

Hi Happyx2,

Cloud thickness is generally speaking an indication of current volatility. If you have a nice thick cloud below a rising price or above a falling price it shows that there is scope of substantial further movement either up or down. We then use the ichi indicators to gather info and predict where the future volatility will go (i.e confirming trend direction and strength).

Thin clouds are quite ominous/dangerous in some ways as they show that the market has little sense of direction. In these such times this may be due to many different factors however it is very common to see clouds thin substantially leading into major market moving news releases such as US payrolls or interest rate decisions affecting whichever currency you are watching.

I think calderone refers to the cloud out in front as being the projection of the cloud that heads out to the right of the current price. This is a projection of where the ichimoku indicator believes the market is heading (up or down) and future volatility (thickness of kumo).

Often when you see the cloud crossing over to the right of the current price this can provide another confirmation of a trend change that may have started however by itself is not necessarily an indicator that you would trade from.

OK, in general terms- Price action (candles) are relative to the kumo (cloud). If you are wanting to sell-the candles should be below the cloud on the 5 minute (or closing through the bottom of the cloud. The tenkan should have crossed under the kijun and these two should be going below the cloud-the chinkou span should be below cloud and under price pointing down. This sell should only be done if the higher time frames are in agreement-meaning that higher timeframes are not showing price above the kumo and above the kijun etc. If you take price measurements from the clouds in the higher timeframes-you can bet they will be support or resistance on the lower timeframes.

I hope this helps and I have not confused you. Make sure you read the first few pages or re-read them.

The leading kumo which is ahead of price is a calculation of price designed to show what is likely to happen in the future or near present.

i respect very much your opinion because you have much more experience than me. still i think about me like a newbie
Price went down so the signal didn't generate, but if price went up, referring to the rules we are following, a good signal could be generated.
But that signal doesn't take into account that strong resistence obviously.
So i reported that possibility but with the warning about resistence and recommending to get just some pips, a small tp.
Regarding H1 Kumo Sentiment I saw a bullish sentiment. But maybe i miss something.. can you explain me how do you mark that bearish sentiment?

Best moves were halfway through uk session. Things look sideways for now. I will stand aside. There is always a chance the cad and aud may move or there could be some afternoon ny action but I think we are ranging.
