IBM reported second-quarter earnings that blew past what analysts were forecasting, and the company's shares rose in late trading.

Googlequarterly profit beat Wall Street expectations, but its revenue growth was not as stellar as some investors had hoped, sending shares down 2 percent.

Still looking at Iraq, Afghanistan, and such, for short term jobs, but it's a long way out - it'll be quite some time before they start rebuilding their education systems and consultants are in demand there.

These earnings the companies post now has a lot of lower labour costs build in due to retrenchments - how long before earnings deflate due to weaker or no consumer?
