HI All,

I've been running backtests for a couple of weeks now - mainly on EURUSD M15. 1 Month takes about 2 hours to process on my machine - very CPU intensive. So 6 month tests run overnight.

One common theme on the results - and I think others have mentioned this - is the occasional big bad trade spoiling them. This trade always lasts for more than a day (but its not the weekend). I could reduce it by setting VisibleStopLoss but that will also reduce the number of good trades.

Maybe its just a result of backtesting, I'm not sure. However these Backtest results would be excellent if I had a set option to close all losing trades at a certain time of day - say DailyCloseHour ? I would set it after closing of the pair I was working on.

Similar to FridayClose but for every day and maybe just for trades in loss?

It seems like a lot of people is running backtests. I'm also doing some and I get the feeling that we have in hands a great tool but it needs some "tuning".
I get around 70/80% of positive trades but the losers, in the end, turn the overall negative.
My question is: Does the backtest flollow all the rules like "trading hours" and "news period"? I believe not but I would like to have confirmation by one of the many specialists in this thread.

To my knowledge it obeys rule about trading hours but not news period (at least not in longer backtesting). I think Karum also said that we don't know if backtesting works correctly on closed candles rule (110 etc.)

If you wish to interest traders to test your system, you should spread updatings with possibility to trade on a live account. Otherwise there is no desire to waste time that all will not make profit. I mean I don't require demo money, because I can't buy demo food, demo car, demo house and so on. You understand me. It's no time to test system which it is impossible to put on the live account. So I think, that if you post your EA for the live account, we will test it MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY.

Hi all

I need a bit of help. I have had success manually trading these parameters. What I am trying to do I thought was simple enough but I can't seem to get the settings right for the EA. Here is what I want my settings of the EA to do.

Open orders when:

1. Fast Trix crosses Slow Trix.

2. Price is above Coral when opening a long order - below Coral when opening a short order.

3. 1 minute slow, 5 minute fast, 5 minute slow and 15 minute fast indicators agree with the direction of the trade.

Close orders when:

1. Price crosses iMax.

2. Fail safe of 3 times ATR for SL


Seems simple enough with the documentation, but in actual practice has not worked how I want it to. (Yes, I do know what the documentation says...)

If anybody has a set for the five minute time frame that is working even remotely like the above, please let me know the errors of my ways.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated...

Thanks Kaz,

but I have tried dozens and dozens of different settings which have yielded catastrophic or potentially catastrophic results. I have tried to turn everything 'off' except for those items I listed.

Since this was pretty close to thv manual parameters, I was hoping that someone was already testing 5 min using something similar. I guess what I am saying is that I want to basically start from scratch.

This system does not interest me at all, I write advisers myself. Simply I am amazed with your stupid relation to this work. The author has given you the adviser not working on live account and speaks: optimise it. Sense to waste time what you cannot already use on live account now? And it is necessary to study, believe me my friend, only trading on live account in on-line time. Driving the drain adviser in a tester you will not receive anything.

With all due respect, if you have no interest in this system, then you could not possibly understand what this group of unselfish, profitable traders are trying to accomplish.

Any others who are new to this system, before you even think about downloading this EA, go to 'Trading Systems' and study THV system, final edition thread.

There are many traders who are daily pocketing pips trading this system. Until you are one of them, working with this EA is a waste of time. Using this EA in a live account would be financial suicide until you understand and are consistently profiting from the manual system.

Imaging getting in a car and trying to drive without knowing how to work the steering wheel or the pedals. Oh, you hope you can figure it out as you go along, but the plain truth is you are in great danger by not learning the basics first. Same goes for this EA....

Ok well, no one can say I didn't try to warn everyone...

Just to make few comments. Cobra is doing the right thing. This EA is far from possibly being traded live and if it was to be open to live trading, there would be a lot of sorrow users already here having lost money and crying. Cobra should not have to deal with those. As I stated on this forum before - it is nice that this person comes up with this .set and another with another .set etc. only for few days when someone else comes up with a better one - only for another to come up in few days...
The only solution which interestingly enough is ignored here.. and has been from the start.. is running backtests with different options. If a little time investment and a bit of CPU overload to run backtests is too much to ask, then by all means continue this way and see in the long run where this will get you but I think you have the answer already. Yes this EA looks great and it is based on solid concepts; however it should not be exempt from treating it like any other EA that falls on your lap. Backtests are mandatory to start with.
If it backtests good run it live!

I tried to find the post where I think Cobra or Karun made a statement which to me makes it worth sticking it out with all the testing.I have been a tester of the system since it first came out, and I will be honest I have left a few times and always seem to come back to this system.I know there are a lot of other working systems out there, but I have tested a lot of them as well as doing manual trading, and I think as I stated before, I will stick with this system.
The comment that Cobra or Karun made was that the manual trading of this system works very well and has a good reputation.They do not want to make this ea live until it is at the point where it can work as well as the manual system.Of course this doesn't mean you will be 100% profitable, or maybe it will get to the point where it will be
I feel that even if an ea costs $10000000,000 or is free, I will not go live with one unless it has been forward tested for at least 3-6 months.
I really think this is an awsome program and I am sure with all the testing it will bring a lot of profit.
With that said, I just started another forward test using the same set file on 1m tf on the major pairs.I was trying another set file which I did not like the results.While it is too soon to determine if this is a good set file, I will test it for a bit.One issue might be drawdown, but will see.
Starting balance in this example was $3000.00

Hey all pipalicious THV Team:

The THV indicators are the most profitable and accurate and easy to follow indicators that I have ever used. And combined with the MTF Dots that show what the higher or lower time charts are doing, make this a very versatile and dynamic trading system. Also, with the added news filter we receive news warnings for upcoming news events so we have the whole gambit with this EA.

The benefits of the THV Trading System that I see and please feel free to add to this:

 

  1. Accurate indicators.
  2. Knowing the OB/OS levels with the Trix.
  3. Knowing when the market price action crosses Above/Below the FPV line.
  4. Can be used with any currency pair and on any time chart.
  5. Seeing the Fib and Pivot levels where a bounce or reversal might occur.
  6. Seeing the Market Hours knowing what trading session you are in.
  7. News release warnings for the pairs combined with the HIGH, MED, LOW risk.
  8. MTF dots that show Higher/Lower market direction.
  9. A huge selection of options and settings.


That being said, are any other programmers working on the EA besides xux99???

What I think would help the EA:

 

  1. Make the settings more forgiving. Since there are so many settings it would be great to know when we have conflicting settings disallowing the EA to trade and a pop up message telling us which settings to fix and how to fix them.
  2. Incorporate Jeff’s Idea of using the ATR combined with the ADX for taking profit. When we go to close out a trade too early it would be great to get a pop up warning us that the trend is still continuing or something asking us if we are sure we want to close the trade early. Just a thought, lol.
  3. In OB/OS levels no trading going against the OB/OS levels. So, when oversold no sells only buys. When overbought no buys only sells. The EA already has a version of this.
  4. Make a very clear user guide that explains every setting in detail with examples of how to use it or set it and if they affect other settings in the EA and which settings those are. Giving an example of how to set them in combination.
  5. Allowing added indicator based entries and exits such as the THV3 HK indicator combined with the Trix Fast and the iMax and the THV3 ichimoku cloud…


What I would like to be able to set up.

Entries: BUY

 

  1. THV3 HK turns Green.
  2. THV3 Trix Fast turns Green.
  3. THV3 iMax crosses ABOVE so the Blue line Crosses Above the Red line.
  4. Price Crosses Above the THV3 ichimoku Cloud.
  5. BUY OPENED.


Entries: SELL

 

  1. THV3 HK turns Red.
  2. THV3 Trix Fast turns Red.
  3. THV3 iMax Crosses BELOW so the Blue line Crosses Below the Red line.
  4. Price Crosses Below the THV3 ichimoku Cloud.
  5. SELL OPENED.


Exits: BUY

 

  1. THV3 HK turns Red.
  2. THV3 Trix Fast turns Red.
  3. THV3 iMax Crosses BELOW so the Blue line Crosses Below the Red line.
  4. Price Crosses Below the THV3 ichimoku Cloud.

5. Profit Target reached.

 

  1. Trailing Stop setting triggered.
  2. Break Even Pips reached triggering the Lock Pips setting.
  3. ATR settings trigger exit.


Exits: SELL

Re-Entry:

 

  1. Trend Continuation will allow another Buy or Sell to be opened as long as the trend continues in that direction, so if a trade closed out too early on a reversal or head fake a new trade is opened once the trend continues and the trading rules for opening a BUY or SELL are met again.
  2. That way we close out keeping the pips on the reversals and head fakes but we allow the EA to re-enter trades once the trading rules for the BUY or SELL are met again.

That was what I was trying to do with the above set file, but I guess I don't have all set just right.What I wanted to do was when the bar was above the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo line and the the two Ichimoku Cloud histo bars were green a buy trade would trigger.When the opposite happens the trade would close and open a sell.I did turn fresh signal off and all it did was close all the trades and have classic trailing stop on?
