Well I'm manually backtesting. The TM and the attached indicator. I don't need the Vortcity at this time although it has many uses. The attached indicator overcomes TM tendency to give false signals on the 1 min. So I use it on the 1 min as direction confirmation and the TM as the trigger. Unfortunately I only have the ex4 version but really want to see the source code.

The combo seems to work quite well but I'm only partially through the year of 2005!

I wont debate it again its all in the thread I know its a long read but Ive just finished war and peace took me 3 weeks and it didnt make me any money..

1. Great strategy. Clear, concise, and easy to apply.

2. Great new indicators and uses of combined signals. Who knew that it would take an astrophysicist to figure out that Forex isn't rocket science? lol.

3. Great contributions from a dedicated set of talented traders who make thread this a pleasure to visit.

I have a favor to ask, or more like a request, to those talented programmers out there....

The Forex Trend fxfariz indicator is great, and I don't mind the repaint, but the alarm is amazingly annoying. Could someone remove it or make a toggle to turn it off?

See the attached version. Maybe this has already been done?

Also I have been looking for a good exit strategy and really like the vorticity indicator. Has anyone considered a Vorticity Stop EA, to simply close an already placed manual trade? This would be amazingly helpful.

Second attempt, this time it works (at least for me). If alarm = true you get a popup when the direction changes, if alarm = false no popup.

Thats correct technicaly if your using it to trigger a trade as it can repaint a couple bars back but if you enter using another indicator that triggers a couple bars past it then you can schroll back

..what you have to do is use a programme that loads your data and then makes it possible for you to play the chart back

That was the initial plan until I back tested it last weekend. My results (for short term trading) weren't as promising as some here (I tell a lie, the results were comparable high % win and a unacceptable positive expectancy). Perhaps I did something wrong but it hit my confidence. I'm not interested in trading a system which backtest well for tha last few months but beyond that falls over. So I am rebacking from 2005 on a 1min TM. The TM and trendchannel. If the results are cr*p I will reback test the MTF strategy.

PS. The swing trading MTF backtest was very good! But I'm not a swing trader!

As it sat Im going to break my golden rule and post another indicator I use and had written for another system.

This is just an example to show you dont need several indicators on our charts to make some pips

You really can keep it simple

Rule 1 We need a trend in place ........ FX trend does that for us with HV

Rule 2 We now want to enter on a retracement

Enter the humble stochastic but not used in the usual way..This is a 5min chart

Each up arrow shows when ever the up trend is in place and the stoch goes below 30.. if we are confident of the trend signaling inds then we can enter when the stoch gets to its over sold position... we get a better entry.

Each down arrow shows when ever the down trend is in place and the stoch goes above 70.. if we are confident of the trend signaling inds then we can enter when the stoch gets to its over bought position... we get a better entry.

close each for 10 pips and you get around 90% strike rate and 60-70 pips in the bank

Dont always think you have to use an indicator as it was originaly intended.

Dont forget this is just an example to show how just one ind is needed if you think you need it...you dont need several inds on your charts

Hi Notch,

Perhaps I can help diminish some of your back testing efforts and free up some of your time.

If a trader is using a scalping plan for around +5 to +10 pips, they will most likely have a decent strike rate with a good plan. However, they will not have a good PE at all as their losing trades will equal or exceed their winning trades from a pip count standpoint. As such, and as I am sure you will recognize, a positive expectancy result must be derived from a single winning trade gaining more pips than a single losing trade. Something to the tune of a trade that gives us a 25 pip gain while having a SL of 10 pips has a PE of 2.5....

When the same setup is back tested over 1000 trades one may find that the strike rate (win/loss) is only say 40%. Still, when one runs the numbers, the long term analysis produces a solid trading plan from a monetary perspective.

So, with this thread pretty much coming down to two separate trading plan, one that scalps and the other falling into the swing category, we are forced to accept one reality over another.

Either we trade a good win/loss plan daily and hope to have a high strike rate (which the +10 seems to do) or we trade the TM/TG swing trade method and have a good PE based on its design.

Not sure if this helps, hinders or confounds you so will just throw it out there and pray.

It does help. I basically have to make a choice between pure scalping or intraday swing trading. At the moment I'm trying to get the best of both worlds. How many pips is your spread for the pairs that you trade?
