Feedback on MT4 programming?

Hi,

Is there any other method besides the experts log that we can get feedback on debugging?

For example, you know how in Matlab, or any other programming software, there is a little "log window" that shows values and printed stuff.

I would like to do some money management programming so I need feedback regarding accountbalance/equity. I think this will be a hassle if I have to check the logs all the time.

What is the easiest method for you?

Then what do you use besides Mt4? I know some use VC++ for debugging then translate into MT4, but for my purposes, that doesn't really work. haha

use the Comment("X1: ",var1," - X2: ",var2); - they way you can see values on the screen when you run visual backtests or let it run on demo.

How does this work, can I run one line at a time? Or would the screen suddenly have a bunch of comments?

You can run it one line at a time. just put /n after every section.

I use this method (writing Comment() on the screen) all the time when programming for customers. It allows you, the programmer, and anyone else using the file to see what's happening inside of the code.

Debugging in MT4 is especially difficult. The compiler provides almost no assistance with finding errors beyond forgetting to close parentheses.

It's tedious, but you simply start from the top of the start() function and display every variable on the screen until the code works as intended.

Unbalanced bracket errors, when I program using C, I use vi, it has a feature where by you can presss the % key over a bracket and it reveals the corresponding closing bracket, do you know if the Meta Editor has such a feature?
