i would personally recommend avast! AV - probably the best free scanner for windows right now.

i didn't have any problems but then i'm on firefox on linux.lol.

other things windowers might want to consider:

1. FF is running on linux (os), apache (webserver - nice to see you're on v2 now guys. ), mysql (db) and php (scripting) so if you were been asked to install activex (microsoft) controls from here that should of sent a few alarm bells ringing.

2. IE/activeX is still s**t technology - security is still unreliable after 10 years of so called commercial or production use. Hackers routinely target the flaws in it. You need to turn off activex downloads for all sites except for - you've guessed it - Microsoft so you can still use windows update.

Use the group policy editor tool (gpedit.msc) to do this and also configure machinge security zone settings. Google for tutorials.

3. Most people are running their systems as root/admins so that if they are silly enough to run these unsigned controls or attachments then these viruses have full access to damage or infect or wipe their files or folders - including the system files. Buy professional editions of windows and you'll have to configure the correct file permissions from a tutorial. Does Vista fix this hole?

Btw, linux configures all this properly for you by default.

4. Run an adware scan using adaware from lavasoft to double check your virus scan.

5. Look at tools like windows defender to use as a backup. Also Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) will do a security check for you. Get both from microsoft.

6. And finally turn on at least windows firewall and your hardware router firewall. Better still buy a decent one from sygate or alwil (outpost).

The virus may be back. My script blockers are rejecting scripts from codecsoft.net which was a corrupted web site that was causing problems earlier. Do not go to the codecsoft.net web site with out a lot of protection. This just started again in the last 15 minutes and now hits on every FF page.

Definitely somethings goin on again

In response to an email I got about how I'm blocking scripts:
Dedhed mentioned this earlier in the thread. If you are using Firefox there is an add-on that will block unwanted scripts and give you your memory back. Install 'NoScript' https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722

Down to 1500 users online from 3000 earlier - we're the hard core. Just 6 clicks for every one normally - Bullguard alerts me every time for each virus. But I'm not gonna let a any little weirdo stop me here.

Yes Virus is back... It is still OK with Firefox but it slows down navigation like hell (where those stupid hackers should go ^^ ) Disabling all Javascript gives a normal navigation back. I think, this virus slows down firefox because it puts it's javascript handling module into a loop of some sort...

I get the attached at the top of my IE7 every click. Any ideas? I haven't downloaded it. It's a pic of the option.

Anything that implies it'll give someone else control of my pc isn't good. I'd skip that one for now. Incidentally, I made it through ok (except for the occiasion withdrawal pain from not being able to go through the forums every hour or so!).

I'm using IE7, with Mcafee Viruscan/Firewall. I had also installed that patch that Microsoft sent out a week or so ago... maybe that helped too.

I've disabled Java in my firefox and now everything's fine so far.

My antivirus just found another virus now!! i am out
