Hi Fx-mates

I want to open a live account with Alpari UK with initial fund USD1,500.00

Pls. advise the following.
- Leverage: 1:100 or 1:200 or ?
- Margin: ?
- Acct type: Mirco, Classic or ?
- Lot open in 1 or 0.05 or?

Let me explain...

I have demo with IBFX in mini account. There I am used to 1 pip = USD1.00, in leverage 1:100, always opened in 1 lot basis (note: I use Euro/USD as a guide). Easy to calculate the pips and amount in profit or loss using this "settings" for me.

When come to Alpari UK, the demo I used now does not have with mini. Yes the web site in Alpari UK listed there are micro and classic acct but I can't find neither one in the demo. I wonder which one is the same as "mini" in IBFX? Pls. comment.

I asked Alpari UK, but I think my English problem, the reply I received not to my query.

Can you pls. guide?

I don't trade the news but today, I have some free time to watch the market during the news and am shocked to see the spread widen that much during EUR rate news.
Hat off for traders who can make money with this broker

I have to correct my claim above, today at 12:44 p.m. GMT, before the news of Minimum Bid Rate on EUR, Alpari has widened the spread to more than 30 pips! I have never seen this......

I was in short that time and in profit..... lol...... it's funny.....

Did you get them too....?
- I checked that "Enable maximum deviation from quoted price"
in the order window to max 3 pips , but they want more pips ..if i want that they give me no errors ..i can't agree to that , sorry.

- In your case maybe try to keep only the used indicators in the metatr folder, i noticed memory is increasing...if you have lots of indicators in metatr. folder, maybe try reinstall metatr. and keep only about 4 charts , no more, if your computer has not much memory available..

I reinstalled, wiped , out al unused indicators, things are better , I have enough comp.memory and a good connection , still , "invalid prices errors",..


I wonder, live on Alpari -UK, can somebody tell us if also so many "invalid prices" errors when you insert a market order ?

I trade live with Alpari and I don't have a problem with them. Very occasionally spreads increase but only when the ATR/volatility increases dramatically. Sometimes, if the price is moving very fast, you get a requote.

I have been with them for over 2 years now. Not a problem. I mostly set market orders and they always get filled or stopped at the price I set. Trailing stops and take profits are to the pip.

Scalpers might have difficulty getting in if they see the price moving fast and want in "now". What would you do if you were a broker? I don't scalp. I work off 15m charts or higher.

Just my opinion. Try another broker?

Also can I just say this: Before I went live I had a couple of demo accounts with different brokers. I can't remember who, now. I was losing connections, getting invalid charts, unable to place orders, etc.

Demo account servers are the last to get attention? Dunno. But if you're serious go live and if it's no good, go somewhere else. There are plenty of experienced traders on these forums who can advise you.

Did you know that behind them there are banks which sends them a price feed.

If there is not real buyer/seller at a given price at a given moment the spread increases.

I'm allways impressed to see the misunderstanding of people about the interbank currency market (or about any market anyway)

I'm currently with IBFX and I'm satisfied with their service.

slippage is reasonable and spread is stable.

I'm trading 1 hour tf and my sl is at least 30 pips away.

right now, I'm also thinking to open acc at alpari, to share the risk in case one of them go bust

This has nothing to do with the Interbank since market makers keep trades in house although they may sometimes hedge their net exposure. They get the price feed and manipulate it as they wish to account for their own spread mark up or to widen against news traders.

Real buyers and sellers? Is this a real Market? The answer is No! The broker is on the other side of the trade.

They have fixed spread, and I never see, before yestarday, spread widened on eu.

In this instance it doesn't matter who's on the other side of your trade, not being funny but what do you think bucketshops like Alpari and IBFX base their quotes on if not the underlying market and their liquidity providers price feed? Like you say they have to offset their risk, they can't stray too far away.

Spreads don't widen to deter news traders, they widen because there's a lack of liquidity in the underlying market which cascades down to the quotes you see on your platform.

If you get an opportunity then watch spreads and quotes on something like Reuters around illiquid volatile times, it will make your head spin!

I wonder if it get as crazy! I sat in front of the screen absolutely mesmerized, I ran back to the nice smooth sugar-coated price feed and instant WYSIWYG fills of my bucketshop, to heck with the interbank market those guys are nuts!

Good tip on having a live account by the way, they seem to operate off different servers. As you know yourself it only takes a minute to open a live account and you don't even need to fund it to get access to the live server.

Which news are you talking about, the stress test results or the central banks and Trichet?

I have no idea about volumes traded as I don't think there's any way of accurately measuring it, from what Reuters said many traders are on the sidelines until after NFP, and looking at yesterday's high volatility/choppy moves that seems to be true.
i have worked on large investment bank FX desks and spreads on many interbank platforms do not widen that much on news (except possibly Non Farm Payrolls). And if they do widen, they are only wide for a couple of seconds at most, AND by using multiple interbank platforms, you can always get a decent bid-ask spread between them. At worst, E/$ would be 5 pips for 10 seconds......So Alpari screenshot in one of the previous posts is a joke

in any case, do not trade news in any instance - you will get done big time, especially by these bucketshops that will hold/delay trades until you are way offside!

remember, the broker takes the other side of your trade, as none of these MT4 bucketshop brokers are true ECN, as they know that most retail customers will get wiped out eventually anyway.

Just make sure you chose a broker that does not mess around too much with requotes and freezes, avoid news, don't scalp, and things should be ok in the long run.

Exactly my thoughts as per my previous post on this thread except that I have never worked for a large investment bank
I dipped in this thread a while ago after some (several) problems with Alpari which really exasperated me to the point I couldn't stay with them anymore, it was stressing me out big time and I've always maintained, forex is a hard game, you don't need added problems thrown in by a broker (freezing, slips, poor customer service etc)
Alpari have their place and are good for most but not for me, trading is my job, I need to know where i am - imagine getting up for work in the morning and your keys have moved, or your car has been moved and you end up you can't get to work "oh sorry boss, it wasn't my fault ...", yeah, sorry son, its not my fault you won't get paid this week !.

I looked at ECN, STP etc etc but eventually went with the forex collective and to be honest I am really pleased I did, thin spreads and no problems.

I'd say its not ideal for newbies, you need to know where you are at with FX and metatrader. I use metatrader and like it so they were right up my street.

Whatever you choose good luck but I can personally recommend these guys, obviously the real proof is when things go wrong and how they deal with it but if they keep it simple and don't mess around with it then this is a good setup.
