I'm thinking of writing a custom front end for personal use using your Navigator SDK API. But I would like to be able to open both long and short positions on the same pair (hedging).
What would be the best way to do this? Must I open two different accounts? If this is the only option, can I share the deposit I made between these two accounts? Will I be required to transfer money from the gaining account to the losing one to avoid margin calls? Can I be connected to both these accounts using the SDK at the same time from one computer?
Also, from work I cannot connect to your servers, probably because of the great corporate firewall. Other trading software I used had an "alternate connection" option which connected through usually not-blocked ports (80, 443, ...). Can I do something like this with MB Trading Navigator? Opening the ports in the firewall is not an option.

I also have been thinking of writing a custom front end for the NAV. I have written bots for the NAV before for stock trading, but FX is much different, particularly if you are familiar with MT4. You will have to keep track of individual orders/positions in your client. NAV allows only one (aggregate) position per symbol. Two accounts would help, but if your trades overlap (e.g. you have two long trades going at a time, which is common in FX) then you must still track your positions in the client. Also, you will occasionally get partial fills. You must track these too, and they spawn new orders with new order numbers. If you set stoploss and take profit using a TTO, then when your original order fills, the server will spawn two new orders with new order numbers. These are pertinent to your position so you must track them... and on and on.
NAV clears its account history daily, so it's up to you to keep track of profit/loss on individual trades if your system requires it. I still don't know how swap and commission is reported in NAV, but I suspect that those are pretty straight forward.
I think it's quite possible to do the job, but you will have to become reasonably familiar with the NAV to pull it off. I'm still on the fence deciding whether to wait for the MT4 bridge (which I think has been under construction in AZ since 2006), or to just muscle it out with NAV.
Been trading with MBT for years and I have been very pleased with the overall service and ECN. The midnight server deal is annoying esp when watching a trade setup but no big deal.. I have read here that it's going to be changed shortly.
I am looking forward to using MT4 w/MBT and altho I scanned around this thread I didn't find any update as to when MBT plans to go-live with MT4?

Dear Adal,
Thank you for your message. Since we do not offer hedging in the MBT Navigator, you will need to open two accounts. With those two accounts you’ll be able to transfer funds between both with a simple online form found in the Client Manager.
Additionally, we can link both your accounts together so that you only have to log in one time, and then toggle between the two accounts for easy access.
Regarding ports, you must have the following open: 5020,5030,7000,8888,8890

ATC is experiencing a problem getting fills on EURGBP during the Asian Hours. Apparantly they have so many scalpers that their ECN cannot supply the liquidity required, and their Prime must go outside the ECN for fills. If the ATC server accepts an order (no requote) the trader expects a fill within the slippage of the order, but since the Prime goes outside the ECN the order may fill outside the slippage.

This may be caused by the nature of the ECN..it apparantly is made up of banks that are closed during Asian Hours. Or it may be the nature of the market during those hours. So I have a couple of questions:
1. Does the MBT ECN include liquidity providers that are active during the Asian Hours, and will provide liquidity?
2. Are any of your MT4 beta testers experiencing this type of problem.
Hi. I'm very new to the MBT Navigator and can't figure out a couple of things yet. Like, if I enter a forex LIMIT order, where is it stored? I entered 3 different LIMIT orders (on the demo platform) last night, and now I can't see them to either change or remove them.

If he is building his own front end, there is no reason for him to open two accounts for hedging. Adal, all you need to do is make sure your front end realizes that when you want to hedge it shows two open positions instead of a flat position. This is an accounting function, since there is no difference between being flat and hedged. As long as your front end thinks you have two open positions it should work just the same. Still dont know why anyone would want to do such a thing but to each his own.

Let's assume we are in a range bound market. The pair moves between 100 and 200. Now it's in the channel middle, at 150, and I have no idea in which direction it will go. I open two opposite positions - both long and short. When the pair will hit 100, I close the short position. Then I wait until it moves to 200 and close the long position. 100 points profit. How do I do this without hedging? I tried a few possibilities on paper but could not figure it out. It looks that if I only open one position with the wrong direction, I will make only 50 points in that cycle. What am I missing? Note that I want to open a position in the middle of the channel, not at S/R.

Thats the whole point, you dont know which way it is going to go when the pair is in the middle of the range. Why place a trade if you dont know or if you dont think it is going to move in a certain direction. If you dont know or dont have an idea then dont trade. It is the biggest rookie mistake to enter a trade in the middle of a range. (IMHO) What you should do is wait until it hits 100 and go long or wait until it hits 200 and go short. You pay half as much if you do. The affect of the trade is the same. If you put on a so called "hedge", you pay the spread twice, once for each position you open and you are net flat. Why would you pay double to have a flat position? Is it just because it looks like you have two open positions? Ask, yourself this question; if you have two open positions but your P/L doesnt change are you really in a trade? Hope this helps.

I will not close both positions at the same time. In that case you are right, it doesn't make sense.
I'm talking about this kind of strategy. You are right, it would be better to enter at one end, but you say that you can do the same thing without using a hedging feature, so it shouldn't matter where I want to enter the market.
