You had the MACD filter turned on (MMF) - so only if the MACD was in the same direction as the bar - would it trade. That's why it traded some and not others.

Makes sense now, Nickj, thanks. Wish it was labelled TradeUsingMACD instead of MMF and I might have caught that one. Sorry, I'm running on less than 3 hours sleep in the last 36 hours. So at least now we know (re-confirmed) that MACD by iteself won't always do the trick.

Yeah the filter was MaxMacd Filter, hence, MMF. It's also in the definitions right above it in the ea. Get some sleep wolfman.

Hi All -

Damon, great to see you almost back to normal (computer repaired and your wife getting home soon)!

I've removed the ugly little feature of reopening failed trades on the same bar - yea!! I also found a "small wondering bug" that may have been responsible for trades closing at some odd times and also cleaned up the code a bit. That's about it for differences between v2.4 and v2.5. Let's give it a good work out and report back.

I certainly don't want to introduce any new ingredients to the ale that we are brewing at the moment here and I do subscribe to the the philosophy that too many cooks in the kitchen is a recipe for disaster, but I would like to throw this out there for possible future (not now) consideration...

There's another thread http://www.forexfactory.com/showthread.php?t=149861 called the Robinhood System that was started by 'kams01'. I have a free copy from the original author (see attached file below) and it uses twin Stochastics (1 fast and 1 slow) for triggered trades. 'Paulus' has had a lot of success with trading it manually but the two EA's offered up on the thread haven't and may not be completely dialed in yet. Paulus uses a slightly modified StochasticColor.mq4 indicator (see attached file).

I can't help but wonder if the same Stochastic used by Paulus might be of help with this method as well. We're only using a single 8,3,3 one. Worth a peek anyway. Forgive me Chef DamonL and Chef Pavatar if I have stepped on any toes with this post, just trying to contribute.

Regarding the above, IMHO, it is better to combine the 2 or 3 orders that fall on the same candle under one, bigger trade. E.g. if there are 3 orders (from 3 filters) at 0.1 lot each on the same bar, the EA will send only one order at 0.3 lot. Less busy for the program to handle one vs 3. Of course this in true in the spirit of giving all filters their chance to trade.

However, if we look from single trade on a candle at any time, then we are discarding the single filter order if the dual or triple filter giving a trade signal....
Its only because there are functions coded in the EA and not being called.

Hey Damon -

Your comments got me curious about the conditions the sling bar indi uses to highlight buy/sell signals versus what the ea does. What I found was a difference that I offer for your consideration.

The sling bar indi does the following:

buy signal = (setup bar low > signal bar low and setup bar close < signal bar close)

sell signal = (setup bar high < signal bar high and setup bar close > signal bar close)

Notice the indi is using the close price in the signal bar........

Our EA does the following:

buy signal = (setup bar low > signal bar low and Ask > setup bar close + 1 point)

sell signal = (setup bar high < signal bar high and Bid < setup bar close - 1 point)

Notice the ea is using the Ask/Bid price = difference with the sling bar indi plus the additional pip which is not part of the sling bar indi.

For our trades to match up with the sling bar indi I think we need to sync up the indi and the ea. What'cha think?

Different issue: I want to also point out that the sling bar indi does not use a high/low spread in its calculations like the original sling shot system. You'll remember that the setup bar had to have at least a 15 pip difference between the high/low to be a "valid" setup bar. The EA doesn't worry about the high/low spread either since it is not listed in the rules in post #1. I have noticed we do have trades taken during the trading window when the setup bar has a narrow (= less than 15 pips) high/low spread. They don't occur real often or in large numbers but in backtesting they have occurred either as isolated trades or in "little groups" during times of low volatility within the trading window.

How about, during this testing period, to show all the rules on the chart so that easy to see what happening.
For example, instead on putting only "inside trading window" on the top, left corner, we also put all rules:
inside trading window: Yes / No
setup bar > 15 pips : Yes / No
setup bar low > signal bar low : Yes / No
setup bar close < signal bar close : Yes / No
etc : yes/ no
etc : yes / No

with this, we can quickly glance whether all rules already "Yes" for a given trade/order.

Once testing done, can switch the info off...or make it as an option to display or not.

whoa, that's a problem. Everything should be coded based on bid not the ask price. If the ask (which is really just the bid + spread) goes above the close, the bid may never do it and this would cause unnecessary losses. IMHO this is wrong. There would surely be no way Damon could have been testing this live as you wouldn't know ask price on the charts since charts are based only on bid prices. Whatch think?

For now, keep it simple until we get the entries and exits, etc. dialed in. Then we can assign different tests to people. That is my thought anyway.

My thoughts as well, Damon, but I still need to have at least 1 option active or there will not be any trades triggered at all, right? So I'll just go with the MACD (MMF) = true only for now.

Hey Gary...I am all for lining up the EA with the indi, as that is what i used to perform all my testing. I also did not pay any attention to how many pips the bar moved for entry. It was rarely a problem.

Off to bed now as I am very tired. I have gbpusd set up 4 times and am testing all 3 filters true on one chart and then each one seperate on 3 seperate charts. Time to trim this baby out

The code I listed for the ea is still part of the original code by Orest. It didn't even dawn on me until Damon was remarking on the sling bar indie. As I looked at the indie and started to compare it to the ea, little bells started going off (I use to have big bells but at my age.......never mind, different story! ) My thought is to change the ea to all 'bid' and to change the sling bar indie to match including the +1/-1 pip above and below the setup bar close.

Fix one, break one. I notice I accidently erased a line of code for the comments regarding which filters are being used. It's not resetting the comment at an appropriate time - I'll add the line of code back in the next version as well. Given Damon's agreement with your comments, I'm going to change the code and post the new version of the ea and indie this morning so we can have a few hours of forward testing.

The EA still isn't closing trades correctly. Maybe it is FXDD only?

GU 1hr was taken at 10GMT and just closed 3 hours later. I have 3 30m GU buys at 12:47GMT and all were in profit at 13:00GMT (8am est) and they are still trading. Now the 1hr GU closed at 15:00GMT, so this could be why.

I have 2 eur/jpy 1hr trades that were taken at 12:47gmt and were in profit at 13:00GMT big time, but are still active.

Hi All -

From our discussions last night on the conditions that trigger a buy/sell signal I've changed the ea so the signals are both based on the bid price. The comment problem I accidently caused has been fixed. I've changed the sling shot bar to match up with the ea as well. Both new versions are attached.

I'm still having an issue with multiple trades based on different filters which are opened at the same time - the issue is that sometimes thay all close at the same time (as they should) and sometimes they don't. It appears random. At this point I dont know if it is the ea or the demo server. May be something like llambert3 is experiencing with FXDD.

The reason I'm posting the two new versions of the codes is because for the data set I'm using for backtesting, there was a significant positive change in the results with the new versions , potential bug or not. I thought some of us might be able to forward test the rest of today with the new versions as I try to run down this 'random act of violence' still haunting the ea.

i've just logged in to my home computer (which runs Metatrader) from work (long live Teamviewer! I hope my colleagues won't spot the charts on my big screen ) and changed to the newest version.
I'll get back to you with a report at the end of the day.
