Question though.......I'm in Miami therefore EST, and its friday night...and markets are closed...therefore cant test live till sunday/monday.

good question... I have not been watching to see a candle that went above the high and then 1 pip below the close to turn red and then turn around and go below the low and then 1pip above the close to see if it turns blue. I guess this could make backtesting a little tricky, but it shouldn't happen that often I wouldn't think. I can tell you that once it turns red or blue it stays red or blue, I just don't know if it turns from red to blue as in if my first sentence were to ever happen. we'll see in time I guess. Is that what you are asking?

YOur chart is not quite as I have described it. Please compare your chart to the chart attached here. The arrows I have represent closed bars, not the open of the bars. I think you just forgot to mark continuation trades.

I'll make that change along with versioning fix.

My apoligies for not being clear, but yes, filter and trade must be in the same direction for the trade to be valid.

the indicator slingshot bars is what I think that you are refering to. Yes, it changes color real time. In fact it can even change to both colors which I have just found out which could skew my daily backtesting as I was not aware of this feature.

As for backtesting, it will not work when you first load it on your chart because it will change. However, it will not change is you leave your platform open, so daily backtesting when you have not closed your platform is accurate except that it will change from blue to orange if a second signal becomes valid on the same bar.

This indicator should really be changed to only take the 1st valid signal on the bar and not a 2nd one if the trade also signals in the other direction,

This is correct, but if you mark the candles and then turn off your platform and restart it, not all candles you have marked will re-appear. I guess I am not sure why.

I have a few questions:

When you test like yesterday with 140 trades, do you "just" test visual or do you place these trades?

Are spread included in the net pip result or not?

I really like the system and results, but combining all 4 would be kind of
stressing to trade with abt 140 trades daily!

I work and so cannot trade this system daily, and trading it for part of the day, I am not sure how good that would be. Might not be any good. The results I give are from daily backtesting which should ba accurate.

140 trades per day would be stressing, but that is why we use meta-trader 4, because if this checks out, we can put it on auto pilot.

Also, through our testing we can choose which system might appear to be the best and can then just trade 1 of them.

I have a silly question..please forgive me if i'm over looking something...
but i can't seem to open the MaxMACDTrendSetter indicator.
when i open it....and click OK....nothing happens...

on the flip side, the max mtf macd in color indicator works fine....do i still need the maxmacdtrendsetter indicator??

sorry for the quetion.

Hey Orest, I am not sure, the trend for the M30 GbpUsd chart is up, but the EA did not open any trades so far. Here is a chart with arrows where there should have been long trades place.

When you load this indicator on your chart it does not read backwards to give you results. It will post the next valid signal realtime once the market is open. For the first signal you will need to use the MACD itself.

I may be off in left field picking daisys with a hard fly ball going straight for my head, but it occurs to me that you and damonl are referring to different things.

My interpretation is that damonl is looking for the ea to read the trend as expressed by the trend direction indicator, which places a red (blue) vertical line on the chart at each trend change. Then place trades in the direction of that trend when a slingshot in that direction occurs.

Orest, is that what you are doing, or are you basing the trade entry on the macd color of the entry period being the same color as the sling candle?

Certainly want to thank you for helping get this thing going. Think it has potential.

a red macd color can have long trades only. The maxmacdtrendsetter_v3 is the indicator to use to determine the latest trend or you need to code something similar in the ea to determine the latest trend.

Folks,
let me get straight here. Of course I don't just identify the trend by indicator's color (blue or red). It would be silly. I use a piece of code from
maxmacdtrendsetter_v3 for filter direction. I used to just open trades in that direction. After that I was told to get the filter direction and indicator direction lined up (showing the same trend) which I thought I did. Now you are saying they could be different. I'm really confused now.

Let's see...how can we get unconfused?

maxtrendsetter version 3 is spot on as far as I can tell. If you were referencing that with your other version, then you were referencing the right thing but the trade still went in the wrong direction which I am unsure why.

Basically if v3 indicator is blue you look for long trades only and if it is red you look for short trades only.

Sorry for the confusion if I brought in macd in color, but i was still using it as per the rules of the trend.

ok sorry, I was just "assuming" it wasn't working...and I thought you misunderstood, and I shouldn't assume.

I put your 1.1 EA on my ibfx and did the strategy tester. It appears to be working correctly mostly, and in the right direction according to what I can see. It is missing some trades. IBFX gmt 16:30 on Friday I took the EU trade live and it failed. I verified on 1m it was valid, but the ea didn't take it. Also, I don't think you are using the hard stops as in the first post.. 1/29 10:00gmt the ea took a sell.. price went 130 pips against it and then returned back and the ea closed it at b/e. Hope that helps.. I only ran it on eu.

EDIT: actually that 1/29 10gmt trade I just mentioned should not have been taken. The prior trade an hour before was a buy, which was correct. The macd incolor value before this 10gmt sell was -21 and the prior segment low was also -21.. Damon will have to answer whether they must go lower/higher to change direction.. In any event, the sell still went 130 pips against..here is a pic.. it is the last trade on the right I am referring to:
