A lot depends on the logic behind the EA. Any EA that exploits the broker will become ineffective quicker if it is shared. For example lately there have been a number of free and commercial EAs that trade EURGBP during the Asian session. They basically scalp and take advantage of the broker. The more people that use that style of EA the less effective it has become. Brokers have started canceling profits or closing...

What a bizarre logic ! It means exactly what it says. Quality posts are extremely rare, but they should be acknowledged as such when they are seen. It wasn't a post meant to be read by the majority here, so there's no need for you to concern yourself with things you cant understand.

As one of the last people to post this in 2008, here are my thoughts:

Posting a profitable system here will not affect the overall forex market. Daily forex volume is approaching close to 4 trillion dollars. Retail traders like us account for a ridiculously small portion of that 4 trillion. I would say somewhere in the 100 billion range--and that's assuming you include demo traders--as I see it, we all probably account for around $25 billion, live trading.

The vast majority of forex transactions come not from speculators, not from banks, but from international companies. Consider the following example:

Apple sells iPods in Europe. Europeans pay for those iPods in Euros. Apple needs to convert those Euros into Dollars in order to pay their designers. Where do they go? They go to the currency exchange market, and conduct the exchange, converting Euros into Dollars.

That is pretty much the core of at least 50% of all forex volume. Not loans, trades, or speculation, but business as usual.

As for EAs, the economic benefit you gain from sharing it is the continued improvement of the underlying system. The vast majority of profitable systems I see here on ForexFactory last for maybe 6 months. I've come across 4 systems here thus far which are so robust that they simply work all the time.

Now, with that all said, before anyone starts hashing out a reply, if you think my thoughts are wrong, you are more than welcome to tell me so. However, I ask that you include a reason as to why my thoughts are wrong. Failure to do so does nothing to contribute to this topic.

hey yogi..... odds are sharing a particular ea would not be a negative to your economic interests...... that's assuming you have no interest in perhaps selling the paticular ea at a later date........ so that leaves only 2 possible other outcomes....

rest assured, beneath all the whoopla on the dozens of forex forums there are groups of people that share ea's daily..... daily..... is it in our economic interests..... absolutely...... beyond a shadow of a doubt.....

does everyone in the group share everything.... no.... but that's not the point.....

is the sharing equal weighted.... no.... but that's not the point.....

the point is sharing tends to promote sharing..... or at least that has been my experience.....h
to trade and code, keep both simple... no call to impress....h

Hi Nvwine, are u sure that the real reason?

I notice there is increasing spread recently, but after new year, spread might become normal again. And if the spread come back to normal, the scalping EA is not the real reason for broker increasing the spread right?

You have a good point and we may just have to stick with two different opinions. I agree the main reason spreads have increased is the lack of liquidity because of the holidays. I talked to IBFX and they said their increased spreads had nothing to do with any EAs. Perhaps I should have left spreads out of my previous post and just talked about accounts being canceled or other punitive measures being enacted.

I did talk to several brokers, two of which I based my opinion on;
One a smaller fixed spread broker that told me that they would normally increase spread during the Asian session and during holiday periods but recently they have increased it even higher because of a number of EURGBP EAs that try to exploit them.
Another smaller broker said they were/or threatening to cancel some accounts because of certain EAs being used. I don't want to discuss these two brokers but you can look at what some other people have posted about ODL's position on certain EAs. I have not phoned them and checked out the information, you can if you want. They would be the largest broker that I have heard of that is looking into this certain group of EAs.
I should have said in the original post that I do not know if the number of people using the EAs is catching the broker's attention or the size of their trades. Would a person get in trouble themselves if they were the only one using the EA? I don't know. I generally use these type of EAs to trade one or two mini lots with several brokers. I have never had any trouble.

Bottom line, I can't prove my point. It is hard to determine for sure unless you know some people higher up in small MT4 brokers.

There is less liquidity in the forex market right now (approximately 6% after Lehman crashed) so they are passing on the spread to you.

In fact, if you watched your ECNs during November, you'd see 6 and 7 pip spreads on EURUSD consistently. It was depressing.



As for your EURGBP scalping during Asian hours..... all the broker needs to do is shut you down or use the plugin by Boston Technologies to freeze your platforms (or requote you) when he sees you having too much success. I doubt those EAs are having any effect on anybody or anything.

I wrote the EA. I had spent a lot of personal money to find the good algorithm. You don't need to know how much but I never gave up even I still loss my money.

One day I found the best algorithm that I can get money from the market. Then you ask me to share my EA?

Before I get success I loss my money, no one wanna help me.
