Note to anyone else reading this; These are the same files as in the first post. D liberators can't open the zip file so I will post them here.

Thanks for all your work on this guys.
Now im trying to run it off a 5min chart.
So i just select the 5min chart in the Tester window and try open it.

Then metatrader goes off and creates a massive .fxt file in C:\Program Files\Copy of FxPro MetaTrader\tester\history
Any idea's what this is about? Ive only 2 gigs free hard drive space and it fills that before it does anything.

Then once full it just stalls.

Surely this is some kind of error? Any idea's why it dumps out another huge .fxt file?

The size of the fxt file for eurusd (1024000 1-minute bars) for me is 146 megs. I sometimes have a problem with large log files, but I think that's due to errors caused by incompatible indicators. I don't know why you are getting a 2-gig file. I don't know if it matters, but I got my data from forextester.com. It imported without a hitch.

But you really shouldn't let a drive get so full in the first place. Windows expects you to leave 12.5% free space on a drive.

I think FxPro has history that uses tenths of a pip. If it does it may be the extra digit causing problems. Have you tried Vhands on a traditional platform.

It could be the tenth of a pip thing. I was with NorthFinance and now FxPro (did they acquire them or something?)

I'll try another broker and see...

Thank you so much nvwine. i've been able to download the files and they are running on my system now.

I'm still trying to master the use of the Vhand though and see how it is different from the original settings of the strategy tester on my platform (AlpariUk).

What i'm looking for is a tester i'll be able to configure to my own settings (strategy) and it will run and place the trades for me without my having to sit in front of the system and place trades manually.

D liberators, vHands is an EA itself (Expert Advisor, code that can auto-trade according to the parameters you set for it), so it won't let you do what you want (run another EA inside it). You either need to code your own EA (perhaps you could find a similar one and just mod it a bit to suit your strategy), or have someone write one for you. Then you run your EA inside Strategy Tester to do backtesting on it.

i was just wondering if its possible to run this with more then one chart ie having the data from 2 or 3 currency pairs displayed at the same time??

Hi All:

Thanks to Bluruby et al for this great info! This was exactly the thing I needed!

However the system I'm demo-ing relies on using a couple of timeframes so I've been trying to get Rangebound's instructions for this working and have run into a couple problems.

Hoping Rangebound checks back in now & again and can give some help - or anyone else that can help would be great.

I've gotten to the following section in Rangebound's instructions:

Problems encountered as follows:

1. Everything goes fine until the I open the Offline M2 chart. I note that when I go to open the file it only has 1000 bars whereas the original file (the M1 file) has something like 3 million!

2. The other thing (not sure if it's related) is that when the M2 chart opens, it is not the same format as the one I add the Period Converter to. It opens as a bar graph not candlesticks and it won't let me change it to candlesticks.

3. The Offline M2 chart doesn't run with the original chart like it's supposed to - or at all for that matter.

Any help is appreciated!

I'm having a problem. I press pause. Drag a buy stop and buy stop SL onto the points I want. Hit go and the two lines disappear off the chart and re-appear in the terminal window (where I got them from)

Any ideas? I've already re-installed the simulator. but it's all still there.

I connected MTF stochastic to vhand with different TF settings but it does not work (latest MTF version of Vhand) . DO you know maybe if it is possible to get it working ??

I had this problem recently (No detail windows and Error #4202) but eventually I noticed that the template name with detail windows did not match the EA name (vHandsTrade) which I'd renamed. The error is triggered from the VisualTradingTools.mq4 include file; it can't find the detail windows. Create a template name to match the EA name.

Refer to Testing Visualization.pdf: 3. "For visualization purposes, the template named tester.tpl or <expert_name>.tpl will be used. It is this name that must be used to save the template".

I'm having problem on step 2. I added the MTFvHandstrade.mq4 to experts folder. Period_Converter_Opt.mq4 to experts/indicators folder. The issue occurs once I open Strategy with settings from Step 1, change Global Variables to 1, I press the "skip to" button once to the date I want, and then click the play/pause button. It takes a very long time to skip to the date I want. I started it at 12:30 PM, and it's now 2:15 PM, and it's only done maybe 10% of the data. My computer is very fast - Quad Core (not sure of all the other specs TBH, but computer is only a couple months old), and Alpari only has 2 charts open (vhands and 1 other chart). Has this happened to anyone else? Any recommendations I can do to speed this up, because obviously I've done something wrong here. Any assistance is very much appreciated.

EDIT: My mistake. I scrolled to the start date and found it had dl'd the data to that point, but the progress bar at the bottom hadn't finished dl'ing. Sorry about that.

Ive been using v-hands to test some trading idea's, the problem is that I cant seem to replicate my v-hands success in my demo account. I was wondering If the way that the bars are created is authentic or not, maby the way the bar is constructed takes where the bar closes in to consideration, therefore using the future close info to make the present moves, this would explain my success while testing.

Any thoughts on this?

ps. I am guessing the tester uses 1min bars open and close data, Im using 5min bars to test from.... Anyone using higher period bars may not find a problem.

I have found the vhands simulator to be VERY accurate to live. In fact, if you look at how it works, tick by tick, it is building the candles and indicators exactly like live/demo but only faster. The only thing it doesn't do is delay between ticks. Let's say it's after hours, and a tick comes in live a minute apart from the previous tick. You will see it in the simulator at the same rate as all the other ticks. So, I can see where a slowdown at the end of building a candle won't be recognized in the sim. Other than that, it is just like the real deal.

Also, for people having trouble clicking lots, the buy/sell line, stop loss, etc, I have found, (but haven't read anyone mention it) that you need to double click the number or line. A single click will just flash the horizontal arrow cursor and won't select the item you want to select.

So, now that everyone has practiced for DAYS AND HOURS using the sim, anyone have any fool proof trading methods they want to share?

Use tick data solely.
Open prices won't work (not even with pending orders) as you would be placing the trade on the next CLOSE price (finished bar/candle) and not the actual candle's close, in any timeframe, and there's no use either of the successive tick data in-between (it will be moving from close to close).
