Anyone watch their trades at work with an eePC?

I don't want to risk getting in trouble at work for downloading MT to my office PC and laptop. Does anyone here run MT on one of those very cool eePC's? One issue would be finding one that runs XP. I know at least one of their models does, but others are on Linux. Is that an issue?

Beyond that, does anyone here do this?

Not specifically an eePC, but if you are running linux, just get Wine, and install metatrader through Wine.

You can install Windows on them if you don't like Linux, depending on which eee model you have, windows will run (much) slower than linux on it.

Alternatively, you can choose to leave Linux on it, but you will most likely need to activate the advanced mode of Xandros and install Wine on it to be able to run Metatrader which is Windows-native.The easiest way to run Windows-native applications on Linux from what I know is by using Wine.

If you don't already know some Linux, it probably won't be very easy to do all this.

i hear that the Aspire One is much better than the eepc..i red somewhere its faster and has about the same size and cost..

aniway..how do u get to install xp with no cdrom? do u need a disk image on an external flash maybe?

Looking at the Aspire one looks promising. For cheaper than an eeePC 1000 or 901 you can get the Aspire One which has XP and a 120 gig HD. You'd just need to make sure to upgrade the RAM.

Not sure how impressed I am. I mean they're really cool. Bluetooth capable. Top 2 models can have XP. SD card slot to expand the memory. (16 GB goes for $30-$50 on eBay.) Built in wireless card. Built in .3 or 1.3 mp webcam.

It would be a great little 'book' to carry around and trade on, so long as your strategy doesn't have more than 5 indicators I suppose. Or perhaps it'd be good for trade management once you're in a trade already.

I'm not impressed by it because the prices don't seem that competitive. Prices are $349, $399, and $449 for the various base models. 2/8/16 gb's. 512/512/1 gb memory. Ubuntu/XP/XP.

If I were to buy one, which I might, I'd go for the 8 GB model with 1 gig ram and expand the hard drive to 24 gb with an SD card if necessary. All I want to do is run MT4, get online, listen to online radio perhaps, and go.

Pretty bad ass little machine though. Thoughts anyone?

a bit old this thread but if u still consider a netbook:
The Acer runs only ~2.5h, Asus runs approx double this time.

I also have a question:
Do u think a netbook like the Dell or eee901 will get too hot running permanent? I mean not 6 hours, but more like 5 days and nights, MT4 open (e.g. running an EA).

I'm afraid a netbook would not be a save way to go (I think it will burn into the table or sth. ), but if, it would be great.
Someone knows?

I was speaking with some guy working in a computer shop and he said he owns an MSI netbook that he just uses to be on all day at home while he is at work.

I have no idea what for, and i'm pretty sure he wasnt lying since we were speaking of other stuff and this came out as a sidenote.
