This is fun...

Hit by an inflation that reached 2.2 million percent in june, Zimbabwe released its 100 billion Zimbabwean dollars bill.

Well, twice in my lifetime Brazil cut three zeros from the currency to avoid such mess. Our breakfast 50g bread was costing some 1.000 and you bought cars for 50 million around here LOL...

Look the amount of Zeros there !!! If you shake up the bill, you might end up buried in zeros

dow will break 10,000 soon. A few bear market rallies in there but a slow steady decline. Based on technical analysis on the weekly chart we should see it go all the way down to about 9200.

Glad I trade forex and not stocks anymore.

Why, whats the difference shorting is just as easy with futures or ETF's.

to me at least forex is easier right now. there is so much uncertainty in the u.s. stock markets. something can happen to one company and it brings down the rest in the sector hard and fast even if there is no valid reason to do so. investors are skiddish at best so I will stick with forex since it has treated me so well.

Merrill Lynch said it expects to take a $5.7 billion pretax writedown in the third quarter due to losses on the sale of mortgage assets and plans to raise at least $8.5 billion by selling new common shares.

Pre-Tax? They pay taxes on writedowns?

Edit: At least this explains why the futures are pointing up... guess the market expected worse... or maybe it doesn't explain anything...

Someone check if I'm understanding right because this seems to stupid to be true.
1) Merrill has crappy assets and sells them for 30 billion taking a 4.4 billion loss
2) Company that wants to buy the assets does not have the money
3) Merrill lends them 75% of the 30 billion so they can buy it anyway.

This is crazy... so Merrill takes a 4.4 billion loss and now still has 75% of the crappy assets, they just changed the name of the asset.

This is funny, too..

Aviation fuel's price skyrocketed here in Brazil. One airline had already changed its standard operation so the airplanes now will cruise 5km/h slower ( total $10 gazzilion per year saved).

Another airline's meal now comes with less olives on long hauls - I'm not kidding!!!

Now they changed another operation: pilots must shut down one engine right after the landing, so to save some drops ($60 per landing) in the taxi (total, another $10 gazzilion per year saved).

First question: why haven't they thought about that before?

Second question: what's next? issue a new low carb diet for the crew to lose a couple pounds?

Stewardess in bikini to drop the clothing weight? (I like that one )

It's a crazy world out there...

S&P futures changed from positive to negative. But not by much - so far.

But Nikkei down -2.0% 272 pts over in Tokyo tuesday morn.
7 traders viewing now
