We have basically moved out of concern of stagflation on both ends. Inflation risk will always remain a concern, but as far as the economy goes the fed is more at ease to do whatever is necessary to maintain a healthy level of growth wether it be a hike or a cut. The X factor should now shift largely to real estate as it is due for a real hard landing, i am of the school of thought that would speculate a rate cut on this basis alone everything else held equal. For this reason coupled with GBP inflation risks in the employment sector, I believe we should see the magical 2.0000 in the immediate future.
Not to mention all the bounces off of long term TA trendlines, weekly positive reversal etc, etc.

well, i might agree with you on the hard landing in the housing market, since it was the 3rd best year on record for new home and existing home sales. kinda tough to keep that rate up. we are at historic lows for apartment and condo rentals, which means there is noone left to buy homes!!! unless we import all the illegals and make the legal!!!!! there will probably be 6 months of depreciation and be a buyers market for now, but it will be a decent year for housing. just my opinion about housing growth. as for the rest of the economy, with the dollar weakening, our exports will increase big time!!!!! that will take the pressure off the housing market being such the big driver of the economy for now. just my 2 cents.

do you know why realy US gov dont change interest rate ? they want to remain on power ... look 2 weeks ago after that crazy GBP rose to 5.25% and they fall .... now all ppl in uk are disorder soon you will find the effect it ...

Double Repo in USDJPY will be confirmed today - Implying some great strength for yen accross the board in immediate term - will look for GBPJPY

NEW YORK, Jan 31 (Reuters) - The yen surged on Wednesday after U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said he is watching the value of the currency "very, very closely," forcing dealers to exit some large bets on further weakness ahead of the Group of Seven rich nations meeting next week.
"This definitely heightens concern about any sort of yen comments ahead of the G7 meeting," said Tim Mazanec, senior currency strategist with Investors Bank & Trust in Boston.
"No doubt, the comment that they're watching the yen's value means there's further risk of yen gains."
The dollar dove against the yen, to 120.64 yen from around 121.28 yen <JPY=>, where it was prior to the headlines from Paulson. The greenback later recovered to trade at 120.80 yen.


The euro plunged to 156.84 yen from around 157.67 yen <EURJPY=>.

The yen had hit a four-year low of 122.20 per dollar on Monday but then rose across the board on Wednesday on growing expectations finance ministers at the G7 meeting next week might raise concerns about the Japanese currency's weakness.
Speculation on the yen intensified after the German finance minister, who will chair the G7 talks, said on Tuesday that Europe's concerns about yen weakness will be raised at next week's meeting. The comments from Paulson suggest that the Americans could be a bit closer to the position of the Europeans at the G7 talks.
"Wariness is lingering ahead of G7," said Chris Turner, head of FX strategy at ING.

Recent indicators have suggested somewhat firmer economic growth, and some tentative signs of stabilization have appeared in the housing market. Overall, the economy seems likely to expand at a moderate pace over coming quarters.
Readings on core inflation have improved modestly in recent months, and inflation pressures seem likely to moderate over time. However, the high level of resource utilization has the potential to sustain inflation pressures.
The Committee judges that some inflation risks remain. The extent and timing of any additional firming that may be needed to address these risks will depend on the evolution of the outlook for both inflation and economic growth, as implied by incoming information.

hey cesar, our news is not about good stuff, it is about " the sky is falling, the sky is falling"!!!! they only show bad things like the body count in baghdad, not that 5 million school kids are in school learning about the world, not singing "saddam is great" alll day, stuff like that. to them ,it is news if it is bad, cuz we can inject politics into it and scream at each other all day!!! democracy at its finest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

viking, the gbp/usd hit 1.9916 on the 24th of jan, 10 trading days after the boe raised rates unexpectadly on inflation concerns, with the premise that they would do it again next month if the negotiations on wages went higher than expected. don't know where you got that god thing, that already happened. if i was able to see in the future, i would be visiting cesar and getting sunburned, drinking alcohol and enjoying the view!!!
